TEPA SELIRA CULTURE IN ART OF KARAWITAN

Abstract

Karawitan is one of part of the Javanese culture that was born because of the needs and demands of the aesthetic sense of musical from the supporting community as a manifestation and crystallization of the aesthetic sense of the Java community. The system of values and historical experience of Javanese society in its journey has influenced the Javanese culture which eventually formed the identity of Javanese society expressed in Javanese traditional music (karawitan). Karawitan art has passed natural selection by society and its era until karawitan art have ethical value and offer high aesthetic taste. Surakarta style tradition of Karawitan places the rhythm as the most important element in a gending performance led by kendang as pamurba rhythm, pamurba means the leader who responsible for regulating the gending breath and also giving life to the gending and lead other instruments working togethet to create a harmonious gending performance. There is a characteristic musical leadership that is so characteristic of karawitan that the character of leadership in karawitan is very different from other musical traditions, especially western music (orchestra) which is called tepa selira. In leading karawitan, kendang which serve as a pamong or alignment that should promote the culture of tepa selira in leading karawitan performance. Karawitan tradition does not recognize the self projection in the performnace which means that each gamelan drummer must develop tepa selira attitude, so there will be no chaos in the performance of karawitan volume.

The Decorative Art Of Wuwungan In Kudus Traditional House

Abstract

The decorative art of wuwungan developed by the Javaness people has
been inherited over the generations. with its unique characteristic, such
a decorative art has some established aesthetic, symbol, and, philosophical values. The decorative art of wuwungan apllied in the rooftop of the traditional house of Kudus has a unique shape with some slur-suluran ornamented with some uniquely fragmented glass. Therefore, such visualization is the interesting for a scientific study. the study employs the quqlitative description method using the historical, architectural, philosophical, and aesthethic approaches. The study aims at analyzing and assessing the structure, style, and function of the decorative art of wuwungan of the traditional house of Kudus. The study refers to the main Edmund Burke Felmands theory suggesting that we can study art works by observing the functions of art the style of arts, and the structure of art. The result of the study will be the concept of the shape and philosophy of the decorative art of wuwungan in the traditional house of Kudus that represent noble value of the traditional Javaness a local identity and culture to be reserved as a national cultural asset that underlises the development of civilized society in Indonesia.

Abstract

Dalang wayang topeng Malang memiliki orientasi kuasa estetik yang lebih kuat dibanding dengan dalang wayang lainnya. Pengetahuan estetik didapatkan melalui pengalaman berkesenian, interaksi di bangun dari keberadaan secara sosial dan lingkungan. Hal tersebut membentuk kemampuan komprehensif seorang dalang wayang topeng Malang. Penerapan pengetahuan estetik seorang dalang menjadi simbol kuasa akan terbentuknya pertunjukan wayang topeng yang memiliki kualitas ekspresi dan kreasi yang tinggi. Format pertunjukan dalam layar datar menjadikan juga pemikiran pengetahuan dalang menyajikan pertunjukan sesuai dengan rasa estetis penonton dan produser. Pertanyaan penelitian 1. Apa pengetahuan estetik dalang wayang topeng Malang 2. Bagaimana kuasa estetik dalang wayang topeng Malang yang ditransformasikan pada pertunjukan wayang topeng Malang lakon Panji Reni kedalam bentuk layar datar. Hasil penelitian 1. deskripsi pengetahuan estetik dalang wayang topeng Malang. 2. deskripsi kuasa estetik dalang dalam mentransformasikan pertunjukan wayang topeng pada lakon Panji Reni ke format layar datar.

Puppeteer of wayang topeng (wayang : puppet, topeng : mask) in Malang has a stronger aesthetic power orientation compared with other puppeteers. Aesthetic knowledge is gained through experience of art, interaction that is built from social and environmental existence. The existence forms a comprehensive capability of the puppeteer of wayang topeng in Malang. The application of the aesthetic knowledge of the puppeteer becomes a symbol of power of wayang topeng show that has high quality of expression and creations. The flat-screen performance format also makes the thought of puppeteer present the show in accordance with aesthetic sense of audience and producer. Research question: 1. What is the aesthetic knowledge of puppeteccer of wayang topeng in Malang; 2. How is the aesthetic power of puppeteer of wayang topeng in Malang that is transformed into wayang topeng show in Malang in the story of Panji Reni into the form of flat screen. This qualitative research used interview and observation data which is analyzed by using interpretation. Research method for this study was art phenomenology. The study of aesthetic power used interview and observation data of wayang topeng show in Malang, East Java. Results of research: 1. Description of aesthetic knowledge of puppeteer of wayang topeng in Malang; 2. Description of aesthetic power of puppeteer in transforming wayang topeng show in the story of Panji Reni in flat screen format.

Abstract

Misi Budaya Universitas 2017 merupakan kegiatan rutin setiap dua tahun yang dilakukan oleh organisasi mahasiswa, yaitu Liga Tari Mahasiswa Universitas Indonesia Krida Budaya. Pada artikel ini penulis ingin menguraikan peran dari setiap kontingen program misi budaya UI 2017. Setiap kontingen harus melakukan dua fungsi dan peran, yaitu harus mampu mengelola pertunjukan ini di dalam dan di luar negeri (Prancis, Italia, dan Serbia) dan harus menjadi penampil dalam kegiatan tersebut. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori peran dan dalam psikologi sosial serta konsep mengenai manajemen pertunjukan. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data diperoleh dari observasi langsung kepada tim tersebut selama mereka mempersiapkan pertunjukan di dalam negeri dan di luar negeri. Hasil dari tulisan ini adalah setiap kontingan yang mengikuti kegiatan tersebut memiliki dua peran, yaitu sebagai fungsi manajemen pertunjukan di mana setiap kontingen memiliki peran dan fungsi layaknya sebuah strutur organisasi dan setiap kontingan memiliki peran dan fungsi sebagai penari atau pemusik.

PENGRAJIN PANGKAL BAMBU DI DESA PENGLUMBARAN KAYUAMBUA BANGLI

Abstract

Pengrajin pangkal bambu bernama I Kadek Sudanco merupakan seniman ototidak dari desa Penida Tembuku Bangli, sekarang hijrah ke Desa Penglumbaran yang merupakan jalur obyek pariwisata antara obyek wisata Tampaksiring dan obyek wisata Kintamani Bangli. Bakat seninya dia dapatkan dari ketekunannya untuk ingin belajar, dengan keuletannya kadek sudanco menemukan ide untuk mengolah pangkal bambu menjadi karya seni yang memiliki nilai estetik. Pangkal bambu yang awalnya terbuang begitu saja dan sering dijadikan kayu bakar oleh masyarakat, sehingga muncul keinginanya untuk mengolah pangkal bambu menjadi karya seni yang bernilai tinggi. Di tangannya pangkal bambu diolah menjadi berbagai bentuk kerajinan seperti: bentuk topeng, patung gaya primitif, asbak, burung hantu, pewayangan dan yang lainnya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengungkap teknik dan cara kadek sudanko mengolah pangkal bambu menjadi karya seni, sedangkan manfaat yang didapat adalah sebagai inpentarisasi keberadaan karya seni yang berbahan pangkal bambu dan relative baru, Sekaligus mempromosikan karya kerajinan ini. Juga dapat menumnbuhkan inspirasi inovasi dan kreatifitas para mahasiswa dalam berkarya seni.
Penelitian dilakukan dengan mempergunakan metode kwalitatif, dalam pengumpulan data dipergunakan beberapa cara, yaitu wawancara, dokumentasi dan kepustakaan, Karya I Kadek Sudanco sudah sering ikut pameran juga telah dipasarkan di dalam dan luar negeri. Karya seni berbahan pangkal bambu ini sangat digemari oleh wisatawan baik dalam maupun luar negeri. Karya karyanya banyak menghias hotel hotel restaurant dan lainnya. Karya seni berbahan pangkal bambu ini sangat unik bentuknya dan artistik, karya ini difinishing dengan mowilek dan vernis. Bahan pangkal bambu yang dipergunakan untuk kerajinan ini adalah bambu petung dan santong (bambu yang buluh atau lubangnya besar), agar mudah diolah. Mengenai bahan baku dia tidak mengalami kesulitan hanya saja yang dulunya didapat secara gratis sekarang harus membeli, karena proses pencarian bahan yang cukup membutuhkan tenaga.

Abstract

The study that discusses the gurda design aims to find out more clearly how the position and change of gurda in the perspective of the Javanese community. In addition to knowing the forms of gurda design and their application to Javanese culture from several perspectives namely traditional and modern.
The change from tradition to modern becomes interesting, because from there it can be analyzed how far the changes are in terms of the shape, structure and application aspects. This study uses interactive analysis method which is the relationship flows from three main components namely reduction data, presentation data, and conclusion drawing, with activities that are carried out interactively, then proceed with the process of collecting data repeatedly so that it forms a cycle. This research is a hermeneutic that emphasizes the interpretation of meaningful expressions.
The importance of the material subject raised in this article is based on the idea that the gurda design on batik does not appear suddenly but has undergone a very long process of development. The design which symbolized the garuda bird was originally described as more realistic and even anthropomorphic, which can be found in various temples in Java, including Penataran temple, Jago temple, Belahan temple and Sukuh temple. After becoming a batik design, the dynamics are very interesting to study so that it can become a model for changing a cultural phenomenon.

Abstract

This article focuses on the literacy of Komeringness of Hasan Qolay Nashihah Diniyah Poetry. Komeringness is one of the ethnic group of Ogan Komering Ulu Timur, South Sumatera. It explores the tradition of literacy is founded in Komering by analyzing of Hasan Qolay Nashihah Diniyah Poetry. It tells about Islam, consists of 32 stanzas. Meanwhile, the literacy is the ability to read and write to an appropriate level of fluency. Whereas, the written form as one of factual evidence for history of Komeringness in before and after historical era. It believes that founding a written form is the first time of culture and civilization of literacy in some years ago be began. The article concludes that the tradition of literacy in Komering can be analyzed by knowing the logical wisdom of the society itself. Because it records most of the scholars visited Arab to learn Islam, around 1575 until 1600 M.

Artikel ini fokus pada literasi suku Komering dari gurindam Hasan Qolay Nashihah Diniyah. Suku Komering adalah salah satu suku di Kabupaten Ogan Komering Ulu Timur, Sumatera Selatan. Artikel ini menjelaskan tentang tradisi literasi yang ditemukan di daerah Komering dengan menganalisis gurindam Hasan Qolay Nashihah Diniyah. Gurindam ini menceritakan tentang ajaran islam berupa nasihat, terdiri dari 32 bait. Sementara itu, literacy adalah kemampuan untuk membaca dan menulis untuk sebuah tingkat kepemahaman. Dimana, sebuah bentuk tulisan merupakan bukti nyata untuk sejarah suku Komering sebelum dan sesudah zaman sejarah. Ini di percaya bahwa menemukan tulisan adalah pertama kalinya sebuah kebudayaan dan peradaban literasi pada beberapa tahun yang lalu dimulai. Ini dapat dimpulkan bahwa tradisi literasi Komering dapat dianalisis dengan mengetahui kearifan lokal daerah itu sendiri. Karena, berdasarkan jejak rekam bahwa para ulama pergi ke negara Arab untuk belajar agama islam, sekitar 1557 sampai dengan 1600 M.

LOCAL WISDOM IN THE TABOT CEREMONY IN BENGKULU

Abstract


Language and culture are two inseparable things that influence to one another. They are integrated with a society which then create local wisdom. It must be maintained for the sake of the continuation of language and culture in the future. Tabot ceremony is one of the traditional cultures of Bengkulu community which has a lot of local wisdom values. Therefore, the researcher tries to analyze the values of local wisdom in the Tabot ceremony and to find the language varieties used in the Tabot ceremony. This research uses an ecolinguistic approach followed by a qualitative descriptive method. The results indicate that the values of local wisdom contained in the Tabot ceremony are the values of humanity and the obligation of caring from one Muslim to other Muslims. The language varieties found in this series of Tabot ceremony are Mengambiak Tanah, Duduk, Penja, Menjara, Meradai, Jola, Arak, Serban, Coki, Gam, Dol, Tessa, Gedang and Tebuang. These Language varieties are the result of the ecological and language processes that occur in the community in the form of traditional ceremony. Lastly, the researcher hopes that the results of this research can contribute to a cultural literacy which is a 21st-century skill. The cultural literacy is the ability to understand and behave towards Indonesian culture as a national identity. So, the results of this research are also expected to introduce Bengkulu culture at the national and international level.

MEDIA AND NEW ANIMISM IN THE HUMAN INTERACTION TO OBJECT

Abstract

Animism is the religious belief that objects, places and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence. If primitive peoples cultivate things from nature, such as caves, stone trees, etc. that have magical powers and have the soul, todays society, believing in objects of consumption possessing souls and powers that can give hope and meaning to life. The objects are soulless and magical are material objects (houses, cars, clothing, etc.). This cultural phenomenon can be seen in commercial video-based commercial products both on television and on the internet (Youtube). Along with the development of information technology, commercial advertising media has mastered the public space (television and internet). Internet via Android-based smartphone has been served information about commercial products through the Youtube app. Commercial advertising attacks on the Internet along with the increasing number of internet users, which has reached more than half the population of Indonesia. This study discusses the phenomenon of cultural change over the emergence of new animism in society over objects of consumption as a soulful object that can communicate with humans. The theoretical approach in the research methodology used in answering the problem formulation is the theory of representation and semiotics. Furthermore, the data collection is done by two methods, namely the data of advertising text in internet media and respondent data through interviews and questionnaires in public spaces. The commercial ads that were sampled were taken from the Youtube app. The conclusion that can be drawn on this research is that internet commercial advertisement representing consumer goods is treated as new animism that are believed to have magical powers that can enhance human life through the promise and hope given to humans. The ideological effects of commercial advertising form a modern animeime culture: the belief of a society of implausible objects of consumption possessing magical powers and soul.

Uchi and Soto Culture of Business Letters in Japanese

Abstract

The culture of uchi (in-groups) and soto (out-groups) have impacts on the use of language. There are different words and phrases used when talking about people included in the uchi to the other person who is considered as soto. This is a characteristic in Japanese language.
In Japanese society, the influence of shudan shugi (collectivism) is seen in the case of a very group-oriented Japanese, who more concerned on the public rather than personal. The Japanese emphasize company names rather than individual skills. This is seen when the Japanese introduce themselves. For the Japanese, the company is regarded as the uchi, whereas the opposite is soto. The linkage of the concept of uchi and soto with the language, is especially in the use of keigo (respectful language).
Keigo consist of sonkeigo (a form of respect by raising the other group) is used for soto, and kenjougo (a form of respect by humbling the speaker) is used for uchi. Uchi for the Japanese, is not simply a house or a company. The company is home to its employees. The company is a big family. Therefore, they always keep the companys respectful name. Language politeness by using keigo when communicating with external groups is one of such forms.
In Japanese business letters, it is clear that the use of keigo is directed to people or companies that are considered soto. For example: 1) The word moushimasu, which is a kenjougo verb form used when introducing oneself to others who are still considered soto, 2) the word orimasu is a verb in the form of respect but belongs to the kenjougo category verb (language of respect to humble oneself), 3) heisha is a noun meaning watashitachi no kaisha or our company as uchi, 4) saseteitadaiteiru is a sentence pattern in the form of respect commonly used to humble oneself when receiving permission from other parties as soto.

AESTHETIC FORMS AND MEANINGS IN THE VISUAL OF SEBLANG TRADITIONAL CEREMONY

Abstract

Seblang merupakan Upacara adat yang digelar setahun sekali yang dipercaya oleh penduduk sebagai ritual tertua dan ritual paling kuat pada suku Using Banyuwangi. Merupakan tarian kerasukan yang ditarikan oleh gadis pramenstruasi di desa Oleh Sari pada waktu setelah hari raya dan oleh perempuan tua pasca manepouse di desa Bakungan pada waktu setelah hari raya idul adha. Makna estetik tersebut akan di analisa berdasarkan bentuk dan makna-makna di dalamnya, karena dalam proses upacara adatnya, penduduk desa menjalin kontak dengan roh leluhur dan roh pendamping dengan tujuan meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat, menjaga lahan tetap subur dan memastikan keberhasilan panen berikutnya. Penulisan ini berupaya mendeskripsikan tentang bentuk dan makna estetik visual yang ditinjau pada ageman yang dipake oleh penari, penabuh/pengrawit, sinden dan pawang serta dari properti dan uborampe yang digunakan dalam melengkapi proses upacara adat yang dilakukan selama tujuh hari berturut-turut tersebut. Yang pada hasilnya dapat diuraikan secara mendalam tentang bentuk dan makna estetik dalam visual upacara adat Seblang di Banyuwangi

Seblang is a traditional ceremony held once a year which is believed by the local citizens as the oldest ritual and the most powerful ritual for the Using tribe in Banyuwangi. It is a possessed dance performance carried out bypramenstrual girls in the village of Oleh Sari after the feast of Eid Mubarak and by post-manepouse old women in the village of Bakungan after the feast of Eid al-Adha. The aesthetic meaning of Seblang performance will be analyzed based on the forms and the meanings in it, because in the process of traditional ceremony, the villagers are in contact with the ancestral spirits and the spirit of companion with the aim of improving the welfare of society, keeping the land fertile and ensuring the success of the next harvest. This articleaims at describing the visual aesthetic forms and meanings reviewed on ageman used by dancers, drummers, sinden (singers), and handlers as well as from the properties and uborampe used in completing the process of traditional ceremony performed for the seven consecutive days. The results will cover an in-depth description about the aesthetic forms and meaningsin visual of Seblang ceremony in Banyuwangi.

Cultural Philosophy for Peacebuilding in Indonesian Context

Abstract

Intercultural conflicts often leave trauma. Trauma illustrates the tremendous experience of abrupt or catastrophic events in which the response to events occurs in an uncontrolled recurring appearance of hallucinations and other intrusive phenomena. Memory does not work as usual when traumatic. The common memory seems to be seen as a model of peace-building. An important part of peace development is trying to integrate deep memory into common memory. A persons trauma experience often can not be displayed or presented. Thus, it is often called presenting the unpresentable. Trauma is difficult to display because it is wrapped by feelings of pain and deep fear. One way to display it is through aesthetic experience in pleasure. According to Immanuel Kant, this transformation is rooted in the work of transcendental reason derived from the fact that the imagination ultimately harmonizes the object with reason. This transformation induces the subject to be a pleasant state. On the other hand, Edmund Burke suggests the pain is mixed with excitement thanks to the psychological process in which terror causes the threat has been suspended. In the perspective of cultural philosophy, transformation is done through a communist census and flavor theory. Both of these paths become important as a means of peace building in children and adults. For children, peace building is done by building play groups integrated into the classroom, play activities, learning, reading books, and art (dance, music and painting), while for adults, peace building through counseling, rebuilding the region , even placement in the new territory.

MUSIC IN MARRIAGE CEREMONY SUNDA TRADITION "NYAWER"

Abstract

This article is about the existence of Sundanese art especially in Sundanese custom marriage in terms of music and supporting tools. The method used is descriptive qualitative, located in Gunungsindur Regency Bogor by observation observe directly process Nyawer, interview and document analysis as complement of data.
Music in the Nyawer marriage ceremony contains the meaning that is spoken in the form of songs to be more impregnated very deeply. The poems that are written give meaning to the greatness of God who has brought together the couple and should the couple be able to interpret the life more wisely, able to be responsible to his partner Nyawer ceremony performed by Nyawer (male and female or both), with the accompaniment of Degung Gamelan instrument, or flute and vocals. Supporting tools in the form of materials that symbolize the source of sustenance and longevity for the bridal couple is placed on the bokor symbol of preservation of tradition.

Abstract

Proses enkulturasi alat musik bundengan yang berlangsung di SMP N 2 Selomerto Wonosobo sebagai usaha pewarisan kesenian tradisi kepada generasi penerusnya. Pewarisan alat musik bundengan di sekolah tersebut, meliputi: unsur-unsur maupun pola-pola enkulturasi (pembudayan) melalui sarana pendidikan. Upaya-upaya proses enkulturasi alat musik bundengan di SMP N 2 Selomerto Wonosobo, diaktualiasikan melalui kegiatan-kegiatan, antara lain: 1) pembelajaran di sekolah baik dalam intrakurikuler maupun ekstrakurikuler, 2) pelatihan-pelatihan memainkan alat musik bundengan dan pembuatan alat musik dengan mendatangkan praktisi (seniman) kesenian bundengan 3) pagelaran/pertunjukan kesenian bundengan.
Pembelajaran alat musik bundengan yang bersifat formal maupun informal di sekolah tersebut memberikan ruang untuk terjadinya sebuah proses sosialisasi dan enkulturasi, yaitu terjadinya proses transmisi pengetahuan, keterampilan dan penanaman nilai-nilai yang memiliki kandungan kecerdasan intelektual, emosi, dan kecerdasan sosial serta kecerdasan budaya. Pembelajaran alat musik bundengan melalui program pendidikan juga memperkuat program pendidikan nasional untuk meningkatkan literasi budaya dan memberikan kontribusi serta bekal bagi peserta didik. Dimana kelak, peserta didik tersebut menjadi generasi penerus yang mampu mengembangkan, menjaga kelangsungan dan keberlanjutan alat musik bundengan.
Dukungan dan peran serta apresiasi dari masyarakat maupun institusi masyarakat serta pemerintah yang bekerjasama dengan SMP N 2 Selomerto dalam menghadirkan kembali penggunaan alat musik bundengan dalam pertunjukan maupun pada acara-acara seremonial berdampak semakin nyata eksistensi alat musik tersebut bagi masyarakat Wonosobo. Selain itu akan memberi dampak dan memiliki fungsi yang sangat strategi untuk memperkuat identitas kebudayaan masyarakat Wonosobo bahkan identitas bangsa.
Tulisan ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, yang mengacu pada konsep enkulturasi budaya. Dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode survey, pengamatan, dan wawancara mendalam (in-depth interview), serta dokumentasi.

ANALISIS NARATIF TERHADAP PESAN MORAL YANG DIKISAHKAN DALAM FILM ANIMASI COCO

Abstract

Paul Smith (1976:81) mengungkapkan pentingnya posisi film sebagai sebuah dokumen. Film animasi Coco yang merupakan film bergenre fantasi musikal produksi Disney Pixar memenangkan piala Oscar dan Golden Globe sebagai film animasi terbaik. Selain itu film yang berlatar budaya Meksiko mendominasi Box Office dunia ini sepanjang 2017. Oleh karena itu sangat menarik untuk mengetahui bagaimana film ini disusun sedemikian rupa dalam sebuah narasi untuk menyampaikan pesan moral tertentu.

Analisis naratif Tzyetan Todorov dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk mengetahui bagaimana komponen-komponen film dibagi ke dalam story dan plot. Todorov mengartikan bahwa naratif terdiri dari story dan plot. Story adalah kejadian-kejadian yang telah terjadi dan masih terus berlangsung. Sementara Plot adalah adegan-adegan fisik dan latar belakang yang disajikan kepada penonton film yang mendukung cerita yang dimaknai tersebut. (dikutip dari Ida, 2014: 152). Todorov membagi cerita menjadi tiga bagian, bagian keseimbangan, gangguan dan kembali ke keseimbangan. Film Coco tentang seorang anak berusia 12 tahun bernama Miguel Rivera yang berusaha meraih mimpinya menjadi musisi ditengah larangan bermusik di dalam keluarganya. Ia ingin menjadi musisi legendaris Meksiko Ernesto de la Cruz. Dalam upaya mencapai cita-citanya, Miguel terdampar di dunia arwah di momen Hari Orang Mati. Di tempat itulah ia bertemu dengan Hector, dan kemudian mengetahui sejarah keluarganya yang sesungguhnya. Nilai-nilai budaya Meksiko yang mengandung memiliki sejumlah kesamaan dengan budaya Indonesia.

Melalui analisis naratif tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa bagian keseimbangan pertama dalam film animasi Coco ditunjukkan melalui kehidupan Miguel yang bahagia dalam keluarga besarnya yang sangat menyayanginya. Gangguan terjadi ketika keluarga besarnya yang merupakan pengrajin sepatu melarang Miguel untuk mencapai cita-citanya sebagai seorang musisi. Keseimbangan dalam film ini tercapai ketika ia bertemu dengan Hector, yang tidak lain adalah salah seorang leluhurnya yang dituduhkan meninggalkan dan menelantarkan keluarga. Pertemuan dengan Hector telah membuka bukti baru bahwa bukan seorang pemusik yang menenantarkan keluarga, namun penghianatan seorang teman. Adapun nilai-nilai moral yang dinarasikan dalam film ini diantaranya adalah nilai cinta terhadap keluarga, nilai untuk mengejar mimpi sebagai musisi dan nilai penghormatan terhadap leluhur yang juga akrab dalam budaya Indonesia. Dalam ini, sang tokoh utama dihadapkan pada konflik antara mimpinya menjadi musisi dan nilai untuk mengutamakan keluarga. Kedua nilai sangat penting dalam kebudayaan Meksiko

Cultural Forms on Arabic Language Textbook al Kitab fi taallum al arabiyyah

Abstract

This research aims to identify the cultural elements contained in al-kitab fi taallum al-arabiyah textbooks. The method used in this research is the content analysis method by examining the cultural forms contained in the textbook. The depth analysis is used to examine the vocabulary, sentences and context in the al-kitab fi taallum al-arabiyah textbook. This research proves that in the textbook al-kitab fi taallum al-arabiyah has several forms of culture, such as customs, clothing, food and beverages, as well as family relations and Arabic proverbs. This research is important because the textbook contains elements of culture. It can support Arabic learning by paying attention to the development of understanding of culture to improve communication competence in Arabic language teaching and learning.

Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskankan bagaimana sastra lisan sahibul hikayat dipertunjukan melalui revitalisasi dari hibriditas yang menjadi identitas Betawi di Perkampungan Budaya Setu Babakan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif melalui etnografi dengan metode observasi, wawancara, dan dokumen. Analisis dengan deskriptif analisis. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan sastra lisan oleh G.L. Koster, Pertunjukan oleh Martha C Sims, dan pewarisan dalam revitalisasi oleh Alberd Lord. Adapaun hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) Bentuk Revitalisasi pertunjukan sahibul hikayat di Perkampungan Setu Babakan, (2) Sahibul Hikayat sebagai hibriditas kebudayaan , (3) Sahibul hikayat sebagai penguat identitas Betawi. Sahibul hikayat sebagai sesuatu yang terbangun dari identitas merupakan sesuatu yang bersifat retak, dan berubah-rubah mengikuti ruang dan waktu. Konstruksi identitas sastra lisan sahibul hikayat merupakan medan pertarungan pemaknaan dalam lingkup kebudayaan.

Abstract

Abstract: This study discusses the contemporary issues that usually take place in the process of scientific writing. This paper focuses on students perception towards scientific writing and how information technology that gives great contribution to bad behavior which is plagiarism, and how to reduce it. The method used is descriptive qualitative by digging the data using survey instrument at 35 final level student respondents from several public and private universities in Indonesia. It is very confusing to see more of students to copy paste from the internet in writing their tasks. This is the result of this research, the necessary workshop training and advice from lecturse or tutors to help students and reducing plagiarisme.

Abstract

Tulisan ini mengangkat pandangan-pandangan Huck, dkk mengenai kesusatraan anak-anak. Dalam bukunya Huck, dkk. Mengangkat berbagai pandangan mulai dari belajar tentang buku-buku dan anak-anak sampai pada menilai pemahaman kesusastraan anak-anak. Buku-buku fantasi di antaranya yang diangkat dalam buku ini sangat menarik. Buku-buku fantasi Winnie-the-Pooh, The Wind in the Willows, dan Alices Adventures in Wonderland sangat digemari anak-anak. Cerita-cerita fantasi pun sering mengungkapkan tentang wawasan dalam dunia nyata seperti dalam Charlote s Web dan Wind in the Willows menggambarkan tentang tanggung jawab dan loyalitas yang diperlukan dalam persahabatan yang tulus. Kesusastraan fantasi modern bermacam-macam, seperti cerita dongeng, cerita-cerita magis, dialog kelakar, dan cerita lain yang menakjubkan. Sumber-sumber cerita tersebut dari cerita rakyat, cerita legenda, mite. Mengenai motif, bentuk peristiwa, karakter, seting, atau tema dalam buku-buku fantasi yang baru nampaknya mirip. Hans Christians Andersen termasuk penulis cerita dongeng yang pertama meskipun beberapa karya ceritanya seperti The Wild Swans dikelompokkan ke dalam cerita rakyat. Ketika dibuat dalam bentuk lain dilengkapi dengan kreasi-kreasi tertentu. Banyak penulis-penulis modern telah menulis cerita-cerita lucu dalam bentuk cerita dongeng yang menceritakan raja-raja dan ratu serta pangeran tampan seperti A birthday for the Princess oleh Anita Lobel. Cerita ini selain unik juga banyak memperlihatkan kelucuan-kelucuan. Topik lain yang juga diangkat dalam buku ini mengenai puisi, realisme dalam kesusastraan kontemporer anak-anak, petunjuk menilai sastra anak-anak, cerita sejarah dan biografi, serta perencanaan program kesusastraan.

The cultural literacy program is one of the six basic literacies proclaimed by the World Economic Forum in 2015. Foundational literacies are literacy, numeracy, scientific literacy, ICT literacy, financial literacy, and cultural and civic literacy. Cultural literacy is someones ability in understanding his culture and how to behave towards his culture as his nations identity. Abstract: The portion of literature in the fourth-grade thematic book is not sufficient, it can be seen that 9 themes of books that only found in the 6th thematic book and the 8th thematic book which have literary works. In fact, many of the materials of the 9th thematic book provided Indonesian culture. Basically, implementing this culture through literary works will be more interested. By incorporating literature in the textbooks that would be given the knowledge and introduced the culture to students. By using literary works, it could be developed spiritual and social attitude competency of students. Therefore, the objectives of this paper are to describe the literary works based on the the fourth-grade thematic book and to describe the design of creative literary learning based on thematic book of 4th grade of SD/MI. Hopefully, this paper could give contribution to the team of book writers in integrating the materials through literary works in each theme book. Thus, the introduction of Indonesian culture to the students will be more maximized and expected the students to increase their ability in appreciating literary works. The research method used in this paper is descriptive. Based on the aims of this research, the results of this study showed that design of creative literary learning could be utilized the teachers of school in implementing literary creative learning that is based on K13.

Abstract

The dominance of English as one of the international languages has contributed to the implementation of English language teaching in Indonesia. As a powerful language that has been used widely in every aspect of humans life, the role of English as a means of modern communication cannot be overstated. Thus, it is vital for the Indonesian students to learn the language as well as the cultural aspects of English as an effort to enhance intercultural awareness of the students. However, as a country with varieties of tradition, language, and ethnicity, the need to integrate local wisdom into English language teaching in Indonesia should also be emphasized. Instilling local wisdom by incorporating local tourism and culture of Indonesia in English learning activities is essential to not only provide the linguistic competence but also equip the cultural competence for the students. Henceforth, the present study solely focuses to discuss the practical ways of integrating local tourism and culture in English language teaching for Indonesian students. A set of integrated local tourism and culture lessons for English language learning has been constructed and implemented to the Senior High School students in Indonesia. The results indicate a significant importance to incorporate aspects of local tourism and culture as parts of the Indonesian cultural identity into the practice of English language teaching.

Abstract

The rapid growth of globalization has made English becomes international language of communication in modern technological world. Responding to this condition, English teachers are encouraged to change their role in order to meet the modern global needs of learners. Knowing that cross-cultural interactions will no longer exists in big urban center areas but it may take place everywhere particularly in most social and professional contexts as individuals are from multiple countries, cultures and languages, therefore being aware of behaviors, expectations, perspectives and values of other cultural groups in a global context is considered as essential concept to be understood by students. In response to this call, teachers should encourage their students to understand the reasons for the actions and beliefs of the other cultural groups whose language they are learning to use by designing class activities which will develop students cultural awareness and help them to be culturally literate students who have required skills for being successful member and communicator in global community. Literature has been considered as the source material for language learning by educators as it facilitates awareness of cultural, linguistic, cognitive and metacognitive skill of students to improve. This paper, through an extensive review of literature, addresses the importance of cultural awareness in EFL context, discusses results from previous studies regarding the use of literature and finally presents recommendations on ways to improve cultural awareness using literary text in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

Istilah pluralisme menjadi topik yang penting dewasa ini terkait dengan realita disekitar kita bahwa perbedaan menyebabkan seseorang mampu bertindak anarkis dan berbahaya bagi orang lain. Oleh karena itu diperlukan usaha untuk memahamkan bahwa perbedaan bukan untuk dipermasalahkan tetapi dipahami sebagai suatu kekayaan dan keindahan yang patut dijaga. Usaha-usaha tersebut dapat dilakukan dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan salah satunya pendidikan bahasa Inggris. Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa asing yang menjadi mata pelajaran atau mata kuliah yang masuk dalam kategori wajib dipelajari oleh semua peserta didik di Indonesia mulai level pendidikan dasar sampai pendidikan tinggi. Oleh karena itu, materi bahasa Inggris memiliki kesempatan yang sangat luas dalam usaha mengembangkan kesadaran akan pluralisme budaya. Hal ini dapat dilakukan dengan cara membandingkan budaya asing dengan budaya Indonesia dan budaya suatu suku dengan suku lainnya yang ada di Indonesia, budaya agama satu dengan agama lainnya dan lain sebagainya. Artikel ini akan mendiskusikan materi ajar menulis yang merefleksikan kegiatan yang mengarah pada pengembangan kesadaran akan pluralisme budaya.

Currently, Pluralism become crucial topic. It is related to the reality that diversity lead to the anarchic attitude that endanger other people. Therefore, it takes effort to make understand that diversity does not become problem but it is a wealth and beauty that needs to be protected. Those can be done in many aspect of live. One of them is English education. English is a foreign language that become subject that must be learned by the learners in Indonesia starting from elementary school until university. because of this, English material have wide opportunity in developing cultural prulalism. This effort can be in the form of comparing foreign culture with Indonesian culture, comparing the culture of one tribe to another in Indonesia, comparing the culture of one religion to another and so forth. This article discuss about writing material that reflects the activity leading to the development of cultural pluralism.

Reconstructing Cross cultural Education in the Perspectives of Mulawarman University English Department Students and Its Implications for Education 4.0 Era

Abstract

Fast growing technological innovations in different fields such as communications, transportation, and various information tools have contributed to creating the greatest blend of cultures in the world. Thus, the urgency of learning culture is not only to know when and how to use the language but most importantly to foster intercultural competence and stimulate worldmindedness. With regards to the importance of cultural literacy in education 4.0, this study addresses the reconstruction of cross cultural education by delving into the experiences and perspectives of several students towards cultural literacy learning. This current qualitative case study involved four third year students of Mulawarman University English Department. The data were collected from a semi structured interview and analyzed by using narrative analysis technique. The findings and implications of the study were as follows 1. The students formally learned basic cultural knowledge through the course they enrolled in whereas outside the class, they had different extents of cross cultural experiences 2. In general, the perspectives of the students regarding their cultural literacy learning experiences seemed to be rather positive as indicated by their motivation to learn different cultures as well as the activities they did in order to improve their cultural knowledge 3. The students claimed that the cross cultural understanding course was still limited to providing merely general information about a particular culture. Therefore, the students proposed to have more in class and out of class cultural literacy learning experiences 4. Balanced integrated task on culture and learning language will produce culturally intelligent individuals who are willing to take risks, with a high tolerance and greater level of patience. These are the qualities which are needed in the current globalized world. Thus, teachers are encouraged to design activities or use materials accordingly.

Abstract

the study aims to describe the process of literacy education occure in Nurul Huda Islamic boarding school. The data of this study were collected throw observation, interview and file note technique. While the collected data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman technique that involved data codification, data display, data reduction, and data verification. The result shows that literacy in teaching Kitab Kuning involves two techniques. The first is teacher read Kitab Kuning using grammatical rule and give explanation of what he/she reads, such as process is done sustanably until Kitab Kuning become end. The second is teacher invites student to read Kitab Kuning in turn based on teacher reading and also student review of grammatical rule.

Tulisan ini membahas proses pendidikan literasi pada pembelajaran kitab kuning di Pondok Pesantren Nurul Huda Sukaraja OKU Timur. Tujuan penelitian ini dalah mendeskripsikan proses pendidikan literasi pada pembelajaran kitab kuning di pondok pesantren tersebut. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik observasi, wawancara, dan teknik catat. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik analisis data sebagaimana dikemukakan oleh Miles dan Huberman, yang meliputi tiga tahap, yaitu kodifikasi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan/verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa proses pendidikan literasi pada pembelajaran kitab kuning di Pondok Pesantren Nurul Huda meliputi dua model pembelajaran. Pertama, guru membacakan kitab dengan menggunakan kaidah tata bahasa dan memberikan keterangan secukupnya. Pembelajaran akan dilanjutkan pada kesempatan berikutnya sesuai jadwal dengan teknik yang sama sampai tuntas. Kedua, guru meminta murid membacakan kembali teks materi dalam kitab tersebut secara bergiliran sesuai dengan bacaan yang telah dicontohkan guru dan usaha mandiri murid dalam penyempurnaan bacaan berdasarkan ilmu tata bahasa.

Books are not the only source of learning, but the environment can be used as a learning resource such as decorative architecture in the learning environment. Pura Dalem Jagaraga is one of the sacred buildings located in Buleleng Regency, Bali. As a relic of history, this temple has a unique decoration than the other temples. In general, decorations on the architecture of the temple in Bali using traditional decorative patterns. But there is combination of decorative and naturalist motifs by combining traditional and modern motifs in decorative architecture at Pura Dalem Jagaraga. This unique characteristic of decorative architecture at Pura Dalem Jagaraga is used as a source of learning seen from the types of decorative motifs that exist in the architecture, composition, and harmony of decoration variety. Types of decorative motifs are reliefs using traditional and modern motifs that lie in the front wall of the temple, such as decorations of Dutch man driving car, a person riding bicycle, a person getting on boat, airplanes, a person playing kites, a person climbing up trees, puppet motifs and fish motifs. The composition of decorative motifs in the form of relief filled the fence wall. The harmonious combination of traditional and modern decorative motifs shows the postmodern aesthetic as dynamic creativity of Buleleng artists in creating decorative motifs on sacred buildings, and this is different from the existing grips in Bali.

Abstract

Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Mandarin (PSPBM) adalah prodi terbaru di Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Jakarta (FBS UNJ). Prodi menerima mahasiswa angkatan pertama di tahun 2014, sehingga kurikulum yang berlaku di PSPBM sejak tahun 2014 hingga sekarang adalah berbasis Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia (KKNI). Pada tahun 2017, PSPBM FBS UNJ telah merumuskan kurikulum baru yang rencananya akan mulai diterapkan pada tahun 2019. Kurikulum tersebut masih berbasis KKNI, namun terdapat perbedaan pada keberadaan mata kuliah peminatan yang sebelumnya tidak ada di kurikulum tahun 2014.

Untuk mempersiapkan lulusannya, PSPBM FBS UNJ telah menyusun kurikulum yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan calon pendidik bahasa Mandarin mencakupi pembelajaran keterampilan berbahasa Mandarin, pembelajaran ilmu-ilmu kependidikan, serta pembelajaran sejarah dan budaya Cina. Budaya dan bahasa memiliki hubungan yang sangat erat. Dengan memiliki pengetahuan budaya, komunikasi akan menjadi lebih lancar dan dapat terhindar dari kesalahpahaman yang disebabkan ketidakmengertian perbedaan budaya.

Tulisan ini akan membahas tentang hubungan budaya dengan bahasa, pentingnya pengetahuan budaya dalam pembelajaran bahasa asing, materi budaya Cina yang perlu dikuasai, pembelajaran budaya Cina dalam kurikulum PSPBM FBS UNJ, dan budaya Cina dalam buku teks keterampilan bahasa Mandarin.

Abstract

It is important to set a foreign language curriculum that enables learners to use English as a means of communication and to develop their intercultural sensitivity and awareness. This curriculum allows English users to use culture as a powerful tool to understand and explore the global cultures. Byriam et all (2001) proposed components of ICC which are attitudes, knowledge and skills to mediate within learners cultures and target cultures. This article presents a content analysis on those components covered in the academic documents of the English Language Curriculum for Indonesian Senior Highschool Students. The analysis is meant to reveal the data on how intercultural are addressed in the Indonesian national standards and English text books.

Abstract

Dalam mempelajari bahasa Mandarin, untuk membantu penyampaian informasi yang disampaikan guru kepada siswa dengan baik, sangat dibutuhkan sebuah media. Jika materi pembelajaran disampaikan dengan metode tertentu tanpa adanya bantuan media maka hasil belajar dan penguasaan terhadap materi yang disampaikan tidak akan maksimal. Penguasaan bahasa asing bagi pemelajar pemula diawali dengan penguasaan kosakata, maka dari itu penguasaan kosakata sangat penting dalam membentuk kemampuan berbahasa asing seseorang terutama bahasa Mandarin.
Era digital membuat segala sesuatu yang berhubungan dengan media informasi menjadi lebih mudah untuk diperoleh. Bahan untuk media pembelajaran bahasa seperti video pembelajaran juga banyak diperoleh dari beberapa situs di dalam jaringan. Untuk pemelajar pemula penggunaan media video pembelajaran kartun dapat membuat suatu proses pembelajaran menjadi lebih menarik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan media video kartun pembelajaran agar dapat meningkatkan minat siswa dan membuat siswa lebih memahami serta menguasai pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin terutama pada penguasaan dasar kosakata bahasa Mandarin.
Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian Kualitatif Deskriptif dengan menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi dan angket. Hasil yang didapatkan dalam penelitian ini yaitu media video kartun pembelajaran siswa lebih memahami dan menguasai kosakata bahasa Mandarin

Abstract

Pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin di sekolah, baik di tingkat sekolah dasar hingga sekolah perguruan tinggi mengutamakan pada pengenalan kosakata baru dan empat keterampilan berbahasa, yaitu menyimak, berbicara, membaca dan menulis serta pengenalan tata bahasa pada pelajaran bahasa Mandarin. Pada pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin, siswa diharapkan mampu menyerap dan paham materi pelajaran bahasa Mandarin yang disampaikan. Penyampaian materi yang baik dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa untuk menguasai bahasa Mandarin oleh karena itu dibutuhkan suatu media pembelajaran yang dapat menunjang proses pembelajaran.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam pemahaman kosakata bahasa Mandarin siswa untuk kelas X- AP SMKN 27 Jakarta. Pemilihan kelas X-AP SMKN 27 dilihat dari hasil belajar siswa di semester sebelumnya yang masih rendah. Siswa belum bisa membaca dan memahami makna kosakata bahasa Mandarin dan aksara Han, sehingga pengajar membutuhkan media sebagai alat bantu pembelajaran agar pemahaman kosakata bahasa Mandarin dapat meningkat. Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan penggunaan media permainan teka-teki silang untuk meningkatkan pemahaman kosakata bahasa Mandarin pada siswa kelas X-AP SMKN 27 Jakarta.
Penelitian ini termasuk jenis penelitian deskriptif dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini yaitu menggunakan teknik tes dan observasi. Instrumen pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan lembar observasi, catatan lapangan, tes tertulis, angket dan data harian siswa.

Implanting Altruism in English Language Education in Indonesia Open University

Abstract

Altruism refers to devotion to the welfare of others, regard for others, as a principle of action, opposed to egoism or selfishness. It is undeniable that this value is vitally needed to have peaceful human life. The 20th century was replete with wars and genocides, school violence, and other abuse. In the face of all this terror education has to take pivotal parts to help instill altruism in students. Although altruism is a natural part of human and innate from a very young age, it needs to be cultivated. Schools are supposed to create environments in which these qualities can flourish. Evidence shows that promoting kindness among young people directly reduces bullying and disruptive behavior and helps to increase social and emotional wellbeing. It can be in the forms of rewarding for good behavior, implementing service-learning programs, or directly teaching them social and emotional skills. Students must be taught in an environment filled with encouragement and justice, in which each student is seen as a lovable human being, not only as a vessel to be filled. Regarding this, Indonesian government has made hard efforts to implant altruism in schools, from primary to tertiary levels. Current studies on this issue revealed that altruism along with other related values have been included even in schools curriculum, learning materials, and a bit in assessment. For those kinds of normal formal education Indonesia, the government might not have problems to implant altruism. However, for an open university, it is not the case. Indonesia Open University employs open and distance learning system to widen access to higher education to all Indonesian citizens, including those who live in remote islands throughout the country as well as in various parts of the world. For such a system, with limited meetings with the instructors and learning modules, it is ostensibly difficult to directly teach the students altruism or implant altruism. This study analyzes how altruism is implanted in the learning materials in Indonesia Open University especially in the English education.

Abstract

Proses pembelajaran bahasa Mandarin yang menarik membutuhkan suatu teknik dan media pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan belajar siswa. Teknik belajar yang sesuai dapat meningkatkan kemampuan seseorang untuk memperoleh hasil yang maksimal terutama pada proses pembelajaran bahasa yang mencakupi empat keterampilan berbahasa yaitu menyimak, berbicara, membaca, dan menulis.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan apakah penggunaan media slide powerpoint berpengaruh pada keterampilan berbicara bahasa Mandarin siswa kelas X jurusan Pemasaran di SMK Negeri 41 Jakarta dan menjelaskan hambatan yang dihadapi dalam penggunaan media media slide powerpoint dan upaya penanganan masalah.
Metode yang digunakan di dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimen kuasi dengan Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas X SMK Negeri 41 Jakarta yang berjumlah 252 siswa. Adapun yang menjadi sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X jurusan Pemasaran yang berjumlah 69 siswa. Kelas X Pemasaran 2 yang terdiri dari 35 siswa bertindak sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas X Pemasaran 1 yang terdiri dari 34 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol. Penelitian ini menggunakan tes keterampilan berbicara, wawancara, dan angket sebagai instrumen penelitian.
Data penelitian diperoleh dari skor keterampilan berbicara bahasa Mandarin pada pre-test dan post-test. Data dianalisis dan diukur secara statistik menggunakan uji-t. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilaksanakan, penggunaan media audiovisual slide presentation memberikan pengaruh positif pada pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara bahasa Mandarin kelas X jurusan Pemasaran di SMK Negeri 41 Jakarta.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to review the understanding of linguistic and cultural concept of students at German Language study program. The sample of the research is determined through purposive sampling with the total of 18 students as sample. Data analysis is done descriptively on the data source obtained through test results and questionnaire. The result shows that there is an increase in the understanding of linguistic concept from adjective declination. There is also an increase on cultural understanding through the concept of Essen und Trinken and Kleidung und Wetter. This shows that song as a media could be used to facilitate the understanding of culture and the understanding of linguistic concept in German Language learning.

Abstract

This research aims to have a comprehensive understanding about culture introduction in the process of learning Japanese speaking in SMA Negeri 75 North Jakarta. The approach which used in this research was qualitative approach with observation method. Data collection method was done by documentation study, video recording, field notes, and in-depth interview which related to the setting of this study. The research findings can be summarized as follows: (1) determination of curriculum, making syllabus and lesson plan/RPP, and the formulation of tje objective of learning japanese speaking related to the introduction of culture. (2) the selection of teaching materials, approaches and methods of learning Japanese speaking which related to the needs and characters of students using the the culture introduction in order to build students learning motivation. (3) the activities of learning process of Japanese speaking are presented in a more realistic context in form of project presentation, role play, direct cultural practice and so on, so that it can be applied in everyday life conversation.

Abstract

Nowadays, the literacy skill is no longer defined only as the ability to read and write upon certain information. Cultural competence is now part of the basic literacy skills in 21st century. The Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia has launched a modified curriculum called 2013 Curriculum which is characterized by some attributes one of them is cultivating strong character in appreciating both own and other culture. This attribute is expected to implant cultural competences through education system. Therefore, the national education curriculum needs to integrate the cultural aspects into the teaching and learning activities in form of material or textbook selection. Cultural aspects can be implanted trough language learning, because language is a part of culture and learning both of them cannot be separated. This study aims to analyze English language learning textbook (supporting material) in terms of the practice and to what extent the reflection of cultural aspects based on semiotic theory. The method used in this study is qualitative document analysis by analyzing one primary document, it is Electronic English Book for 7th graders 2017. The contents analysis is used to collect the data. The findings revealed that the content of the textbook has already covered several aspects of culture, for instance social awareness. However, the textbook still has some missing points in reflecting the cross-cultural aspects.

Abstract

Sekarang, keterampilan literasi tidak lagi didefinisikan hanya sebagai kemampuan membaca dan menulis pada informasi tertentu. Kompetensi budaya sekarang menjadi bagian dari keterampilan literasi dasar di abad ke-21. Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Indonesia telah meluncurkan kurikulum yang dimodifikasi disebut Kurikulum 2013 yang dicirikan oleh beberapa atribut salah satunya adalah menumbuhkan karakter yang kuat dalam menghargai baik budaya sendiri maupun budaya lainnya. Atribut ini diharapkan untuk menanamkan kompetensi budaya melalui sistem pendidikan. Oleh karena itu, kurikulum pendidikan nasional perlu mengintegrasikan aspek budaya ke dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar dalam bentuk pemilihan bahan atau teks. Aspek budaya dapat ditanamkan melalui pembelajaran bahasa, karena bahasa adalah bagian dari, budaya dan pembelajaran keduanya tidak dapat dipisahkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis buku teks pembelajaran bahasa Inggris (materi pendukung) dalam hal praktik dan sejauh mana refleksi aspek budaya berdasarkan teori semiotik. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis dokumen kualitatif dengan menganalisis satu dokumen primer, yaitu Electronic English Book untuk siswa kelas 7 2017. Analisis isi digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Temuan ini mengungkapkan bahwa isi buku teks telah mencakup beberapa aspek budaya, misalnya kesadaran sosial. Namun, buku teks masih memiliki beberapa poin yang hilang dalam mencerminkan aspek lintas budaya.

Abstract

The research Skills Improvement of Deaf Students in Rampak Kendang Learning Through Sign Language in SLB Aisyiyah Singaparna Tasikmalaya aims to determine the skills improvement of Deaf Students in Rampak Kendang Learning. The method used is the action research. This method used to designed skill improvement of deaf students with sign language. After this research is expected to do further research with Research and Development (R & D) method, development of a media of learning of digital media to help deaf student in learning rampak kendang or other.
The results of previous research indicate that SLB Aisyiyah deaf students are able to follow the learning of rampak kendang through sign language instruction. The learning process of rampak kendang was conducted as many as ten meetings in the Teaching and Learning Activities (KBM) and five meetings outside KBM. Learning dance is not too experiencing constraints because it is visual, but the obstacles encountered when having to use music and change of movement. For music and movement harmony with coding, count, and tap. Students will have difficulty following learning if vision is detached from the teacher, so students views are always focused. Rampak Kendang learning through sign language is taught to deaf students as an introduction to cultural literacy in SLB Aisyiyah Singaparna. Deaf students at SLB Aisyiyah became acquainted with and mastered one of the Sundanese cultures, namely rampak kendang.

The Effectivity of Using Role Cards in Kaiwa Class to Enhance Speaking Class

Abstract

The ability to have the skills in speaking is an important factor in kaiwa class/in speaking class. Speaking is the means of communication to express ideas, purpose and intentions of speakers. To improve speaking skills there needs to be an appropriate methodology. Previous techniques in teaching of kaiwa mainly focused on question and answer,memorization and discussion with a theme prepared. These types of activities have proven not satisfactory in enhancing the speaking ability of students. I propose a method using role cards for students in university in their 2nd, 3rd and 4th semester. This method has the following steps; teacher gives the role cards to students, the cards are written in Indonesian, the students read the cards then conduct the instructions. The improvement of student&#39s skills is seen in their confidence in using the L2 not only with their peers, but also to the tutor and native speakers. This technique allows students to explore further their speaking ability. It also allows students to apply their knowledge in bunpou in Kaiwa class.

Reflecting in Japanese Reading through Contextual Approach for Beginners

Abstract

As we know that reading skills are advanced skills after listening and speaking among four language skills. For foreign language learners, of course, the demand to master these skills is getting more difficult. Especially in Japanese, the most common obstacle encountered is the differences in the characters, vocabulary, and grammar, beside there is no interword spacing.
As one of the effort to help students to overcome the problem, reading learning through contextual approach has conducted to the first semester students in Japanese Language Education Department, Jakarta State University. One of the components in the contextual approach is a reflection activity. Reflection is a way of thinking about what was just learned and also thinking back about what has been done in the past. Through this activity students are expected to find a link between information or knowledge they just acquired with their daily experience. Thus they will discover the meaning of a learning. According to Johnson when someone finds the meaningfulness of a learning then that knowledge will leave long-term memory rather than just remembering the lesson.
This study aims to determine the impact of self-reflection and its relation to the ability to read Japanese language in the beginner level.
This research method using descriptive analysis method. From the reflection of 20 students who learned Japanese language for the first time, it shows that vocabulary ability is the most supportive factor for them in mastering reading skill compared to grammar ability, and the improvement of literal reading skills based on the word meaning process, not habituation.

Measuring Altruistic Behavior of Preservice Teacher Students of English Language Education

Abstract

Altruistic behavior is one among other personality traits that teachers should possess but it is difficult to resist a temptation not to ask if altruism can be measured. Such has been running for decades in long lasting debates and there a polar opposite conclusion still exists. This research was conducted to support those who claim there is a place that altruism can be measured. In particular this was directed to validate a Self Report Altruism (SRA) scale which was adapted from the original measure of Rushton and Fekken (1981). The adaptation was essential to comply with the Indonesian context in the sphere of teaching profession. Data were collected from 60 undergraduate students of English education program and analyzed using factor analysis to ensure whether, as Rushton and Fekken have done, the adapted scale as well yielded high internal consistency and if all items were extracted from the underlying attributive constructs. Further the adapted SRA scale was associated with other related measure of personality traits (i.e. NEO five factor inventory which was originally developed by Costa & McCrae, 1985) to verify its concurrent validity. The research reveals the following results (1) all items are significantly inter-correlated which shows high internal consistency, (2) the correlation of both measures are significantly high which means the adapted SRA scale is acceptable to measure altruistic behavior of Indonesian undergraduate students during their pre-service teacher training.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis materi ajar bahasa Indonesia yang dipergunakan dalam proses belajar mengajar di SMAN 1 Cipanas. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Analisis ini dilakukan karena materi ajar ini sebagai salah satu penunjang keberhasilan sekolah tersebut dalam menghasilkan luaran yang baik dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia. Hasil analisis tersebut diharapkan dapat menjadi acuan untuk sekolah lain dalam mengembangkan materi ajar.

Abstract

Reading is one of the four language skills, with the ability of reading, hopefully the language learners especially the Japanese language learners, the 6th semester student of Japanese Literature Department, Faculty of Letters, Udayana University can understand the text well what is implied as well which is expressed in the text then the purpose is reached. There is the test is held to require whether the student can understand the text. The reading evaluation is really important to measurement the level of the Japanese learner ability in understanding the materials that has been given in the classroom then the main goal can be achieved well. The level of reading ability consists of the level of memorizing, level of understanding, level of application, level of analysis, level of synthesis and level of evaluation.
The problems examined evaluation in teaching Jokyuu Dokkai with using the form test of reading ability in 6th semester Jokyuu Dokkai courses, how using the reading ability level in 6th semester Jokyuu Dokkai courses and how using the Penilaian Acuan Patokan (PAP) or the benchmark reference assessment applied in 6th semester Jokyuu Dokkai courses and and how reading ability test results in 6th semester Jokyuu Dokkai courses.
The method used in this research is the descriptive qualitative method. The data sources used in this study are all the students of A class and B class of 6th semester in Jokyuu Dokkai courses, Japanese Literature Department, Faculty of Letters, Udayana University. The data used in this study is the reading question and student questionnaire results. The result of the analysis is using the triangulation technique. Triangulation Patton (in Lexy J. Moleong, 2012: 330), there are two strategies for measuring the validity of data, the first is by checking the degree of confidence in the data obtained from the data technique and the second is by checking the information from the data in the same way.

Abstract

Makalah ini akan mendeskripsikan kajian konseptual mengenai literasi dalam kerangka pedagogi kritis. Literasi budaya sebagai sebuah konsep yang bermakna dimana literasi itu dipandang sebagai sebagai sarana untuk menggunakan budaya dan sejarah sendiri secara kritis. Agar gagasan literasi menjadi bermakna, maka literasi diletakkan dalam teori produksi budaya dan dipandang sebagai bagian integral dari cara orang-orang menghasilkan, mengubah dan menghasilkan kembali makna. Literasi harus dilihat sebagai sarana untuk membentuk dan menegaskan momen-momen sejarah dari pengalaman hidup yang menghasilkan budaya hidup. Sehinga literasi budaya dapat dipandang sebagai suatu fenomena yang dapat dianalisis dalam konteks teori hubungan-hubungan kekuatan dan pemahaman akan reproduksi dan produksi sosial dan budaya. Kerangka pedagogi kritis merupakan sebuah teori yang dapat dijadikan sebagai sebuah pendekatan untuk membawa literasi budaya ke dalam pembelajaran dengan cara membangun kesadaran kritis. Oleh karena itu, literasi budaya dibangun oleh pedagogi kritis.

Abstract

Literasi budaya adalah kemampuan dalam memahami dan bersikap terhadap kebudayaan Indonesia sebagai identitas bangsa. Literasi media digital adalah kemampuan untuk mengakses, menganalisis, mengevaluasi, dan mengomunikasikan isi media informasi dalam berbagai bentuk media. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kegiatan peningkatan kompetensi literasi budaya dan literasi media digital warga Kelurahan Utan Kayu Selatan, Jakarta Timur. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di wilayah Utan Kayu Selatan karena di wilayah ini belum pernah dilakukan kegiatan sosialisasi tentang literasi budaya dan media digital kepada warganya. Apalagi, angka pengguna media televisi dan internet di wilayah ini sangat tinggi pada anak usia sekolah dasar dan menengah pertama. Peningkatan kompetensi ini dilakukan melalui kegiatan sosialisasi mengenai literasi budaya dan media digital kepada para orang tua yang memiliki anak yang bersekolah di taman kanak-kanak, sekolah dasar, dan sekolah menengah pertama di Kelurahan Utan Kayu Selatan. Kegiatan sosialisasi terlebih dahulu dilakukan terhadap Kepala Kelurahan Utan Kayu Selatan dan Ketua Rukun Warga di Kelurahan Utan Kayu Selatan yang warganya terlibat sebagai sasaran kegiatan. Dalam workshop yang diselenggarakan, warga dibekali dengan kompetensi literasi budaya dan media digital bagi anak-anak mereka. Narasumber kegiatan ini berasal dari Tim Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia bekerja sama dengan KPI (Komisi Penyiaran Indonesia). Produk akhir kegiatan ini yaitu jurnal kegiatan literasi budaya dan media digital yang diimplementasikan warga dalam kehidupan sehari-hari sesuai dengan panduan literasi budaya dan literasi media digital.

Investigating Character of Honesty in The School Curriculum and Praxis: The Case of Junior High School

Abstract

Honesty is one of the values of character education which refers to factual truthfulness and interpersonal sincerity. Character education is one of the concerns of Indonesian society since young people are bombarded with many negative influences through the media and other external sources prevalent in todays culture.
Good character is not formed automatically; it is developed over time through a sustained process of teaching, example, learning and practice. School is one of the places to teach and practice character education. When a comprehensive approach to character education is used, a positive moral culture is created in the school. Teachers can act as caregivers, models and mentors, treating students with love and respect, setting a good example, supporting pro-social behaviour and correcting hurtful actions. The teacher creates a moral community, helping students respect and care about each other and feel valued within the group, and a democratic classroom environment, where students are involved in decision-making.
The aim of this study is to investigate how character education with explicit focus on character of honesty stated in the curriculum is practiced in the classroom and to provide guidelines for good practices of building character education in school. This is accomplished through analyzing characters stated in the curriculum, lesson plans, and assessment tools with the implementation of character education in the classroom activities, schools surrounding activities and extra-curricular activities.

Cultural Literacy in English Language Instruction Documents of Senior High School

Abstract

Cultural literacy represents individuals ability to understand and appreciate the similarity and differences in customs, values, attitude, habit, beliefs of ones culture and others culture. It is a natural part of us all and innate from a very young age. However, to put that belief into practice it needs to be cultivated from primary school to university. Indonesian government has stipulated it in educational-related documents. This study investigated whether cultural literacy is addressed in the documents of English Language Instruction in Senior High School. Content Analysis was carried out to analyze three text books in Senior High School. The data was all cultural literacy-related words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and illustrations in reading texts and tasks of the books. The study revealed that cultural literacy-related words were unequally distributed throughout the books, from text, task (learning activities) to assessment. The cultural aspects are addressed in reading texts and tasks are represented by information about national tourist spots and national heroes, national celebrations, and folk stories. They were not even explicitly stated that the teacher might not be aware of them, let alone adressed them in the teaching-learning activities. It could be tentatively concluded then that cultural literacy was not deliberately adressed in the documents of English Language Instruction under this study.

Teachers Understanding on Design Module of Hybrid Learning

Abstract

Pendidikan Profesi Guru Dalam Jabatan is a way to get certification. This polecy becomes a guidline for the teachers improve their competency in hybrid learning. This study aimed to describe the understanding level of teacher in design module of hybrid learning. The populations in this study were Indonesian teachers in Jakarta, Bogor, Tanggerang, and Bekasi. The primary data were obtained from questionnaire filled by 112 teachers. The data analysis was performed using frequency distribution table, cross tabulation, and descriptive analysis. The results of this study showed that the teachers understan about design module hybrid learning even them have never join in hybrid learning before this program.

Developing Model of Media Literacy through Critical Analysis of Fake News

Abstract

The convergence of media into digital media and the ease of accessing and producing news require new ways of approaching it or media literacy, mainly in dealing with fake news. This fake news has penetrated both uneducated and educated people such as college students. Some researches have been conducted to address media literacy and fake news separately. This research aims at addressing both issues by developing model of media literacy through critical analysis of fake news. To design this model, research development method is used. Before the model of literacy is constructed, a questionnaire was distributed to collect information on students media literacy. Interestingly, the result showed that the students had some knowledge to access information or news from digital media, and were able to identify online advertisement and news. Theoretically, they could name some characteristics of credible news, yet they failed to recognize fake news and provide coherent reasoning. Instead of questioning the reliability of those news, they were not hesitant to share the news because they considered the news were beneficial for others and they mistakenly identified fake websites for official ones. Along with the result of comparative analysis between credible/real news and fake news, model of 6 Cs of critical media literacy is proposed to address students lack of awareness in fake news. The model consisted of some activities covering investigating the Context, Credibility and Construction of the news, as well as Corroborating, Comparing news from other credible sources before Creating news. Using this model, students would not only have knowledge about news reliability, but also they would be able to do critical analysis on the news, be aware of fake news and help preventing the spread of fake news.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan model bahan ajar membaca bahasa Arab era industri 4.0 dengan pendekatan Content and Language Integrated Learning. Rumusan masalah yang diteliti adalah bagaimana mengembangkan model bahan ajar membaca bahasa Arab era industri 4.0 dengan pendekatan Content and Language Integrated Learning dan efektivitas model bahan ajar tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian dan pengembangan. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Arab pada mata kuliah Qiroah (membaca). Luaran penelitian ini berupa model bahan ajar membaca era industri 4.0 dan artikel di jurnal internasional bereputasi. Model bahan ajar ini menggunakan kurikalum kerasulan yang termaktub dalam Al-Quran Surat AlJumuah ayat 2 yang terdiri atas: (1) Tilawah, (2) Tazkiyah, (3) Talim Kitab, dan (4) Talim Hikmah. Tilawah adalah memperdengarkan bacaan Al-Quran untuk ditirukan dan dihafalkan; Tazkiyah adalah penanaman karakter tauhid dan akhlaq karimah yang terdiri atas tiga tahap yaitu: Takholly (pembebasan diri dari dosa), Tahally (berhias diri dengan taat ibadah fardhu dan sunnah), dan Tajally dengan tiga maqamat: muroqobah, musyahadah, dan fana. Sedangkan Talim Kitab adalah pembelajaran AlQuran dan Sunnah juga buku-buku pengetahuan umum secara fardhu kifayah sesuai kebutuhan kehidupan manusia di era industri 4.0 sebuah era revolusi yang tidak sekedar dicirikan oleh kemunculan teknologi pintar dan temuan-temuan mesin-mesin yang terkoneksi dalam sistem sebagaimana revolusi sebelumnya, ia menjangkau perubahan yang jauh lebih besar dan diterminasi secara akumulatif oleh difusi, mutasi dari pelbagai faktor dan potensi yang secara inheren terkandung fi dalamnya: teknologi informasi, digitalisasi, biomedis, kecerdasan buatan, nano teknologi. Jadi ia merupakan fusi dari pelbagai teknologi dan interaksi yang melintasidomain fisikal., digital, dan biologikal. Ini yang menghasilkan revolusi industri keempat secara fundamental berbeda dibandingkan dengan revolusi-revolusi sebelumnya. Dengan itu, oleh kerenanya, ia memiliki daya ubah yang lebih cepat, lebih luas, masif, dan merasuk. Sedangkan Talim Hikmah berkaitan dengan pembelajaran pemikiran filsafat Theosentris dan Antrophosentris

Abstract

Perkelahian atau tawuran pelajar yg rawan terjadi di Indonesia sdh menjalar hingga ke pelbagai jenjang, mulai dari Sarjana sampai Sekolah Dasar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menciptakan model lagu-lagu sebagai media pendidikan karakter untuk siswa sekolah dasar. Karakter yang dimaksud antara lain tentang kedisiplinan, kegotongroyongan, jujur, tanggung jawab, toleransi, bekerjasama, cinta orangtua, cinta tanah air.
Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian dan pengembangan dengan produk akhirnya adalah purwarupa lagu anak utk pendidikan karakter.
Langkah-langkah penelitian mencakup analisis terhadap lagu yg ada, kajian ttg pendidikan karakter dalam lagu, mengembangkan purwarupa lirik dan nada yg sesuai karakteristik siswa SD, dan validasi pakar serta ujicoba. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lagu anak yg ada tdk banyak yg memenuhi karakteristik anak dan pendidikan karakter mereka dari segi pilihan kata dalam lirik dan nada serta durasi lagu. Purwarupa model lagu anak yg diciptakan memuat 18 karakter sasaran pendidikan nasional yg tertuang dalam lirik yg jelas, sederhana, pendek dan mudah dimengerti; nada yg riang : dan durasi lagu yg relatif singkat sehingga mudah dihafal.

Abstract

Karya tari ini merupakan sebuah perwujudan dari kompetensi peneliti yang bertujuan memberikan gambaran tentang proses karya yang terlebih dahulu melalui penelitian untuk mendapatkan data, dengan melalui wawancara, observasi, dokumen, dan diskusi yang selanjutnya dianalisis menyangkut, pola gerak, yang di jadikan dasar pijakan karya melalui pendekatan konstruksi V dari teori Jacqueline Smith. Metodologi yang dipergunakan dalam pelaksanaan penelitian adalah Penelitian Kualitatif untuk mendapatkan gambaran yang kompleks tentang gerak tari pelegongan dan bebarisan serta gerak-gerak mudra di saat seorang pendeta melakukan aktivitas pemujaan Surya Suwana (Pemujaan untuk Matahari yang dilakukan di pagi hari). Pendekatan yang dipergunakan dalam penelitian adalah Etnografi dan Fenomenologi, ke dua pendekatan ini sama-sama melakukan keterlibatan langsung kepada objek yang di teliti. Intensitas dan keterlibatan langsung dalam penelitian selanjutnya diwujudkan dalam karya dengan mempergunakan konstruksi V dari Jacqueline Smith. Pendekatan konstruksi V yang diungkapkan oleh Jacqueline Smith merupakan Sistim pengorganisasian bentuk dimana penempatan motif gerak dan pengembangan motif yang secara terstruktur yang di mulai dari 1. Bentuk Biner. 2. Bentuk Terner. 3. Bentuk Rondo. 4 Bentuk Tema atau Pariasi. 5. Bentuk Canon/Fuga. 6. Bentuk Naratif, Cerita yang di angkat dalam karya, tentang kesetiaan matahari sebagai pemberi kehidupan manusia yang tidak pernah terbenam, dan kesetiaan manusia untuk selalu memujanya.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan pengembangan materi dan media pembelajaran bahasa Arab di tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) yang mampu menjadi standar buku teks dalam pembelajaran bahasa Arab di SMA. Hal tersebut sebagai realisasi dari kebijakan Politik Bahasa Nasional yang mengatakan bahwa Bahasa Arab sebagai bahasa agama dan budaya diajarkan mulai tingkat Sekolah Dasar hingga ke Perguruan Tinggi.
Pendidikan bahasa Arab pada Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) maupun Madrasah Aliyah (MA) dilaksanakan hanya sebatas buku teks tanpa media pendukung dalam pembelajarannya dan lebih mengarah kepada tata bahasanya. Sementara keterampilan berbahasa tidak terfokus kepada keempat keterampilan, tapi hanya satu, dua, atau tiga keterampilan saja.
Penelitian dimulai dengan penelitian survey untuk memperoleh gambaran secara empiris tentang pembelajaran bahasa Arab sebagai dasar untuk mendukung strategi empiris rasional dalam merancang pengembangan materi dan media pembelajaran bahasa Arab di SMA/MA. Produk penelitian ini adalah buku teks pembelajaran bahasa Arab kelas X hingga kelas XII tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA/MA) dan media pembelajaran bahasa Arab dengan 2 Model : (1) bentuk CD Hangman, (2) bentuk permainan kartu: yang terdiri dari 3 game kartu: (a) game domino bahasa Arab; bergambar dan tidak, (b) game memadukan gambar dengan kata yang menunjukkan maknanya , (c) game merangkai kata menjadi kalimat bahasa Arab yang sempurna.

Penelitian ini dilakukan karena adanya sebuah masalah atau kendala yang terjadi pada mahasiswa dalam mempelajari qiraah . kendala tersebut bisa berupa kesulitan memahami wacana bahasa arab dikarenakan banyaknya perubahan nada atau intonasi dan tekanan dalam membaca wacana bahasa arab.
Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode research dan development (R&D). Data penelitian ini diperoleh melalui angkat yang diisi oleh 25 mahasiswa sebagai subjek. 20 mahasiswa jurusan bahasa arab di Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Penelitian pengembangan media berupa diagram pembelajaran yang menggunakan kuesioner. Haln ini dilakukan untuk dapat mengukur keberhasilan dan efektivitas sebuah pembelajaran yang menarik, pengujian ini berupa sebuah data yang dilakukan dengan pengujian khusus pada diagram intonasi dan khusus pada materi.
Penelitian pengembangan ini dilakukan berdasarkan prosedur pengembangan yang telah disusun, (1) Menganalisa kebutuhan, (2) Perencanaan Pengembangan Produk, (3) Pengembangan Produk Awal (4) Uji Coba Produk awal, (5) Penyempurnaan Produk Awal (6) Uji Coba Produk yang telah di sempurnakan (7) Penyempurnaan Produk Pengujian Produk, (8) Evaluasi oleh ahli materi dan ahli media. Yang di laksanakan di Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Arab pada semester Ganjil dari bulan Januari-Maret 2018-2019 tahun akademik 2018-2019.
Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah hasil analisi kebutuhan yang menunjukkan siswa menghendaki atau setuju dengan adanya sebuah media pembelajaran yang berbentuk diagram intonasi yang menjelaskan proses perunahan nada atau intonasi dan tekanan yang ada pada pembelajaran qiraah.
Penilaian dari ahli media dan ahli materi menunjukkan hasil yang sesuai dengan aspek penyajian, kelayakan bahasa, dab aspek kontekstual. Hasil Uji ahli media mendapatkan hasil sebanyak (100%) sangat baik dan hasil uji dari ahli materi sebanyak (23%) diterima dan (77%) baik. Layak untuk digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran untuk dapat memahami diagram intonasi yang dapat menunjang pembelajaran bahasa arab khususnya pada pelajaran Qiraah di kalangan mahasiswa jurusan pendidikan bahasa Arab.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk Mengembangkan bahan ajar Sintaksis Arab 2 (Nahwu 2) dengan pendekatan kontekstual budaya lokal di Perguruan Tinggi. Penelitian ini di latar belakangi dikarenakan anggapan bahwa Bahasa Arab itu merupakan susunan Bahasa yang rumit untuk dipelajari. Dengan pola-pola perubahan katanya yang sangat banyak dan struktur kalimatnya yang bermacam- macam, banyak pembelajar Bahasa Arab ataupun pemerhatinya merasa bosan dan bahkan takut untuk mempelajarinya dikarenakan mereka akan menghadapi banyak masalah dan kesulitan kesulitan untuk memahami Bahasa tersebut. Disamping itu pula referensi materi ajar yang digunakan adalah materi ajar yang dibuat dan diterbitkan oleh penerbit Arab, sehingga banyak komponen-komponen bahan ajar yang digunakan adalah pendekatan budaya Arab dengan Bahasa-bahasa yang tinggi. Hal inilah yang membuat pembelajar bahasa Arab kesulitan untuk memahami teks ajar tersebut, dan membutuhkan waktu dan konsentrasi yang ekstra untuk memahaminya dengan baik dan benar. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah metode pengembangan Research and Development dengan model ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, dan Evaluation). Penelitian ini menggunakan data kuantitatif dan kualitatif, data kualitatif yang diperoleh yaitu data berupa deskripsi komentar dan saran dari validator yang dideskripsikan kemudian dibuat kesimpulan secara umum. Data tersebut diperoleh untuk merevisi produk yang dikembangkan. Hasil analisis validasi pakar merupakan masukan, tanggapan, kritikan, dan saran yang digunakan sebagai acuan dalam perbaikan bahan ajar yang dikembangkan.
Peelitian pengembangan bahan Ajar ini dilakukan dengan tahapan sebagai berikut, (1) Menganalisa kebutuhan,(2) Perencanaan Pengembangan Bahan Ajar, (3) Pengembangan Bahan Ajar, (4) Implementasi Bahan Ajar tahap awal , (5) Revisi Bahan Ajar, (6) Penyempurnaan bahan ajar, (7) Evaluasi dari pakar.Berdasarkan analisis hasil kebutuhan bahwa mahasiswa menunjukan kebutuhan yang cukup tinggi terhadap pengembangan bahan ajar sintaksis 2 (Nahwu 2) dengan Pendekatan Kontekstual Budaya Lokal di Perguruan Tinggi. Penilaian pakar dan validator menunnukan hasil kesesuaian aspek penyusunan, penulisan tata bahasa yang digunakan, dan pendekatan kontekstual. Hasil penilaian pakar menunjukan (98%) sangat baik dalam pendekatan kontekstual budaya lokal, pakar tata bahasa 88% diterima dan (80%) baik. Bahan ajar sintaksis 2 (Nahwu 2) dengan Pendekatan Kontekstual Budaya Lokal dapat di implementasikan dalam pembelajaran pada Perguruan Tinggi.

Abstract

Keterampilan menyimak merupakan anak tiri bila dibandingkan dengan tiga keterampilan lainnya. Perhatian peneliti pengajaran bahasa terhadap keterampilan menyimak dimulai pada 1960an padahal untuk keterampilan lainnya beberapa tahun sebelumnya sudah dimulai. Peneliti membandingkan dari empat penulis : 1) John Field, 2) Wilson, 3) Penny Ur, dan 4) Cristine C. Goh. Periode perkembangan strategi didasakan pada masukan, instruksi dan kegiatan, paradigma teori yg digunakan. Diperoleh 3 tahapan perkembangan strategi pembelajaran menyimak. Secara garis besar ada perubahan pembelajaran dari behavior dan pendekatan bawah ke atas menjadi pengembangan sikap perduli, metakognitif dan pendekatan atas bawah.

Abstract

The aim of the study is to examine the effect of content and language integrated learning (CLIL) approach to Arabic speaking learning. The study was used action research method. The sampling was taken by 25 students. The validity of data used credibility, transferability, dependability, and conformability. The analysis data used independent sample t-test. The result of a study that t-test result is t-stat (5.12) > t-table (2.68). It means that there is a significant difference was found in Arabic speaking learning in favour of the student who studied before and after the use of CLIL.

Abstract

Visual literacy plays an important role in the development of the student creative mind especially in the writing comprehension. Visual literacy demands the student to be able to expand their mind creatively which then transferred into an imaginative writing. The base idea of this research is that the visual literacy concept which can be defined as an ability to interpret images as well to produce images, to be used to communicate idea and concept through a writing. One of the strategy to enhance this process is to activate or stimulate the cognitive process from the visual materials used.
The research method used is the descriptive quantitative with the sample of 25 students from the German Language in the 4th semester batch 2017/2018, which had been selected randomly. The result of the research shows that there is a significant relation from the Visual Literacy, Creative Thinking and the Writing Comprehension. This result concludes that the literacy and the creative thinking are has a significant positive influence to the student writing comprehension.
Therefore in order to increase the students writing comprehension, it is suggested to apply the implementation of the visual literacy throughout the study process to stimulate and improve the cognitive mind of the students.

A MEANINGFUL LEARNING IMPLEMENTATION THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CLASSROOM SOCIAL INTERACTION

Abstract

Learning is an activity which involves two ways of an equal and a well-balanced interaction between the student and the teacher throughout a study process. Through a correct interaction strategy, teachers are able to influence the learning participation which can lead to a significant impact on the result of the learning itself. This research aims to analyze the contribution of the social interaction to the student learning atmosphere. The Method used in this research is the descriptive analytical method, with the lecturers and the students of the German Language education program as the analyst units. The data collection had been collected through observations and questionnaires. The result of the research indicates that the boarder the interactions strategy developed by the lecturer, (1) the students are more motivated to study; (2) the students are happy and actively involve throughout the learning process; (3) the learning materials has been mastered and understood well by the students. Based on the results, a significant line can be drawn, that the implementation of the social interaction which involved, the teachers, students, the learning materials and the learning media, are able to produce positive impacts for the learning atmosphere in the classroom, which can significantly contribute into the result of the study. In order for a learning process to be meaningful, lecturers are expected to not only apply a two-way pattern of social interaction between lecturers and students only but also between students and students and students with media and learning resources.

Cultural Literacy and Character in the Curriculum of English Education Study Programme

Abstract

Borderless mass communication among culturally different individuals across the world in the digital era with easy accesses to many things leading to selfishness and impatience potentially contributes to communication breakdown or even to cultural harassment. This study is purposed to explore the ways cultural literacy and character are accommodated in the existing curriculum of English Education Study Programme, State University of Jakarta. A content analysis study was employed to carry out the research in which the data of cultural literacy and character indicators stipulated in the curriculum and course outlines were collected and analysed. It is found that cultural literacy was embedded in the English communication competence as one of Study Programme objectives and thus, cultural literacy was part and parcel of target phrases and expressions provided in English skill course outlines, usually in terms of formality degrees or styles. Besides, this literacy was accommodated in the courses, like Cross Cultural Understanding or Language Culture and Society or Sociolinguistics. Cultural literacy in the curriculum was limited to linguistics context and interpreted only to serve the communication purposes instead of as a skill to take part in a given culture expected to be proportionally accommodated in the curriculum. In terms of character, data analysis showed that it was stipulated in the objective of the Study Programme and of all course outlines. However, character was neither explicitly described and put into the teaching and learning activities in the course outline nor taken into account in the assessment.

Abstract

Technology is inevitable, so translators have to adjust. It is essential to explore how the translators deal with a culture-specific element in a translation task and use in-hand technology to solve translation problems, provide solutions and references in the decision making process. In response to such issues, this current article represents translation as a process in which the common principles communication takes place in the process of creating the translation. The process in real time event enables us to explore strategies employed when translating difficult texts containing strong cultural element, i.e., humor texts. Thus, the problems are: if the choice of strategies works efficiently under a particular element and circumstances, with the help of technology; and if the translator can provide a similar concept common to target culture resulting an equivalent culture-specific detail as a result from the employed strategies. A volunteered respondent received a translation task of short humor text. Translation activities, namely reading, typing, and referencing, were simultaneously recorded for later viewing. A retrospective interview was conducted after the task. In the end, the results provide sequential relations of translation strategies of translating humor text involving technology as an essential component of decision-making strategies in producing culture-specific translation text.

Abstract

Tantangan yang muncul saat menerjemahkan isu-isu khusus, misalnya tentang perempuan, ke dalam bahasa sasaran yang tentu saja memiliki konteks budaya yang berbeda, terletak pada pemilihan prosedur penerjemahan dari bahasa sumber ke dalam bahasa sasaran. Penelitian ini membahas tentang prosedur penerjemahan yang digunakan dalam menerjemahkan culture specific items (CSI) terkait dengan isu-isu perempuan dalam novel Lelaki Harimau karya Eka Kurniawan ke dalam bahasa Jerman dan bahasa Perancis, serta menggambarkan ideologi penerjemahan yang berkaitan dengan keberpihakan penerjemah pada budaya bahasa sumber atau budaya bahasa sasaran. Dengan menggunakan teori taksonomi dan prosedur penerjemahan yang diusung Newmark (1988) dikumpulkan CSI berupa kata, frasa, atau klausa terkait isu-isu perempuan dalam novel Lelaki Harimau ke dalam domain-domain untuk mengklasifikasikan CSI tersebut dan prosedur penerjemahan yang digunakan untuk menerjemahkan CSI tersebut. Penggunaan prosedur penerjemahan tertentu menunjukkan keberpihakan penerjemah terhadap budaya bahasa seperti yang diungkapkan oleh Venuti (1995), Blazyte (2016), dan Fadly (2016). Dari hasil pembahasan awal ditemukan bahwa penerjemah novel Lelaki Harimau ke dalam bahasa Jerman dan bahasa Perancis lebih cenderung menggunakan prosedur padanan fungsional berupa istilah-istilah dan ungkapan-ungkapan yang bebas budaya (culture free words). Penggunaan prosedur ini menjadi salah satu indikator bahwa ideologi yang dianut dalam penerjemahan CSI ini adalah pelokalan (domestication).

Abstract

There are some challenges that arise when translating specific issues, such as the issues about women, into target languages which, of course, have different cultural contexts. The challenges lie in the selection of translation procedures from the source language into the target language. This study discusses the translation procedure used in translating culture specific items (CSI) related to womens issues in Eka Kurniawans Lelaki Harimau novel into German and French, and describes the translation ideology associated with the translators alignment with the culture of the source language or the culture of target language. Using Newmarks theory of taxonomy and translation procedures (1988), CSI compiled words, phrases or clauses related to womens issues in the novel into the domains to classify the CSI and the translation procedures used to translate the CSI. The use of certain translation procedures indicates the translators alignment of language culture such as expressed by Venuti (1995), Blazyte (2016), and Fadly (2016). From the results of the initial and earlier discussion it was found that translators of the novel Lelaki Harimau into German and French are more likely using functional equivalent procedures in terms of culture free words. The use of this procedure is one indicator that the ideology embraced in this CSI translation is domestication.

Lo I Keta spells is a sacred speech using a language medium that develops in the traditional community of Bima. The language of Lo I Keta spells is believed to have a substitution of meaning so as to produce an allusion. This research aims to describe the metaphor in Lo I Keta Spells. Riffaterre semiotics research forms the basis for analyzing the replacement of meanings. The research approach is descriptive qualitative by using data collection techniques such as recording, interview, and record. The results show that the figure of metaphor includes metaphor, anaphora, epiphoria, parallelism, and symbolic.

Abstract

This study was descriptive qualitative research. The topic of this study is focused on verbal abuse. Data from this study are the clauses that represent the behavior of verbal abuse. Sources of data in this research are replay video from the in-game match and YouTube. The approach used in this research is Systemic Functional Linguistic. Data were collected through recording and random sampling. Data were analyzed using domain analysis, taxonomy and componential. Verbal violent behavior (offensive language and verbal abuse) in psychology is considered as mental abuse, and if done through online media are categorized as cyber-bullying. League of Legends (LoL) is a video-based online game MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), developed by Riot Games. This game is ranked top in the game with criterion players most (played by 27 million people every day). In the online rate site, this game is categorized as Teen, Violence Blood, Fantasy, Mild Suggestive Themes, Use of Alcohol and tobacco. In South East Asia zone, League is one of the online games under the Garena Company. Based on data collected from studies in the United States, funded by the DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), there are 1691 reports of offensive language and 1740 verbal violence reports. This research raises the issue of verbal violence in the extent of 1) how the interpersonal meaning of linguistic units that represent verbal violence, and 2) how the ideational meaning of linguistic units that represent the verbal violence. The results show that 1) the interpersonal meaning is realized in emotive expressions, in a declarative way, between perpetrator and the victim; 2) the clause structure that represents the expression of verbal violence is realized through mental process, relational process, verbal process and behavioral process.

This study is concerned about Epenthesis analysis that often occurs towards dyslexia students who have troubles on English writing. Acknowledging the Epenthesis that is made by dyslexia students at Yayasan Pantara Jakarta based on Nancy Hall (2011). Epenthesis of dyslexia students is the prominent target of this study. The study is committed by using writing tests at Sekolah Khusus Yayasan Pantara Jakarta, Indonesia. Some words which were used on the tests were fetched from Lerner (2000: 466) theory regarding basic sight words which appropriate for children in the 3rd grade of elementary school. The discoveries found that mostly epenthesis occurred in vowel epenthesis despite on the other side there is consonant epenthesis.

The Unique Morphemes in Javanese

Abstract

This study is aimed to describe 1) the forms of unique morphemes and language phenomena that occur in it, 2) the degree of uniqueness of the morpheme, and 3) the meaning and function of the morpheme in the Javanese language.
This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The data collection is done through literature search and observation by taking notes. The literature search is done by searching for reference sources on Javanese books and dictionaries, while observation is done by observing the use of unique morphemes in the daily life of Javanese society. In addition, the data were also collected through interviews with experts and Javanese native speakers to find out the meaning and function of the morpheme. The data are then collected, identified, classified, and analyzed based on their form and degree of uniqueness. The data of this research are presented by informal method.
The results of the data analysis show that 1) unique morphemes in Javanese form the basic and pseudo morphemes, the pseudo-form can be divided into two, i.e. pseudo-affixed and pseudo-shaped 2) the morpheme is attached to the free morpheme of verbs, adjectives, nouns and numerals , 3) the linguistic phenomena that occur, namely the existence of sound, phonestem, and the influence of Javanese culture, 4) uniqueness levels of the morpheme can be divided into 4, i.e. unique morphemes with high uniqueness, rather high, rather low, and low, 5) This unique morpheme has several functions, like intensify meaning, explains the way, explains the form, explains the state (of that kind), explains something related to time (something sudden).

Abstract

Indonesia kaya dengan berbagai ragam budaya, bahasa dan seni dari Sabang hingga Merauke. Berbagai macam etnis tinggal di berbagai belahan bumi pertiwi. Keragaman budaya dan etnis membuat persatuan bangsa Indonesia menjadi kuat. Persatuan bangsa ini juga diperkuat oleh komunikasi antar budaya oleh bahasa yang digunakan di berbagai daerah. Pepatah mengatakan dimana bumi dipijak disitu langit dijunjung. Semua tindak tutur masyarakat harus sesuai dan menghormati adat istiadat daerah seseorang tinggal Penggunaan bahasa daerah di suatu tempat juga dapat mempererat hubungan dan komunikasi suatu masyarakat budaya tertentu sehingga memperlancar kegiatan kemasyarakatan dalam satu komunitas. Salah satu keragaman budaya dan masyarakat terdapat di Kampung Sungai Liat, Bangka.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan hubungan pendidikan bahasa Mandarin di masyarakat kampung Sungai Liat dapat meningkatkan komunikasi antar budaya dengan berbagai etnis di daerah tersebut. Salah satunya yaitu etnis Tionghoa yang kesehariannya menggunakan bahasa Mandarin. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan menggunakan data dari masyarakat kampung Sungai Liat Bangka, serta perbandingan etnis Tionghoa dan etnis Melayu yang tinggal dalam satu kampung, serta penggunaan bahasa yang digunakan dalam kegiatan sehari-hari. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini yaitu menggunakan teknik observasi lapangan, tanya jawab. Instrumen pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan lembar observasi, catatan, pemberian kuisioner data masyarakat. Melalui penelitian ini dapat terlihat bahwa perkembangan pendidikan bahasa Mandarin di Indonesia sangat berkembang bahkan menyatu menjadi suatu akar budaya di beberapa daerah.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan panduan penyusunan perangkat pembelajaran kitabah Arabiyah di Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Arab UNJ menjadi lebih mudah, efektif, dan menarik dengan mengintegrasikan nilai integritas, kepedulian, dan literasi budaya di dalamnya. Untuk itu penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan model yang akan menghasilka modul Pengintegrasian Integritas, Kepedulian, dan Literasi Budaya dalam Mata Kuliah Menulis Arab.
Langkah-langkah penelitian ini mencakup identifikasi kebutuhan modul pengitegrasian integritas, kepedulian, dan literasi budaya dalam mata kuliah kitabah. Kemudian dilanjutkan dengan membuat purwarupa modul Pengintegrasian Integritas, Kepedulian, dan Literasi Budaya dalam Mata Kuliah Menulis Arab. Di bagian akhir penelitian adalah penilaian pakar terhadap kelayakan model yang telah dihasilkan.
Modul pengintegrasian integritas, kepedulian, dan literasi budaya dalam mata kuliah menulis bahasa Arab (kitabah) diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran dengan indikator peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran yang menekankan pengembangan kepribadian, sikap, dan akhlak yang terintegrasi di dalamnya nilai integritas, kepedulian, dan literasi budaya. Ketiga nilai ini merupakan salah satu program yang sedang dikembangkan secara masif oleh pemerintah dalam upaya memperbaiki karakter warga negara yang beradab di tengah banyaknya kasus pelanggaran dan perilaku yang merugikan bangsa dan negara.

Abstract

Tonsawang community who live in Tombatu District has its own language, which is Tonsawang Language, however its culture is part of Minahasa Culture. In the Tonsawang community live and develop social systems and culture that maintained by its members. Behind it, there is also a tendency language that is not maintained which is the language. Tonsawang Language as well as other sub-ethnic languages in Minahasa, seems to be no longer inherited to children, so the language is feared to be extinct because in the language recorded traditional cultures, so the traditional culture is feared to changed, is also no exception in the system of Traditional Medicine. The formulation of the problem in this study covered three things, namely the system of disease according to Tonsawang Language, etiology of disease according to the belief of Tonsawang community, and the traditional system of medicine in Tonsawang community. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative method and analysis as suggested in the ethnoscience study. In the data collection used among others, interview techniques, observation, and participation and in analyzing the data classification techniques as suggested by sturttevant was used. The results of this study showed that the system of naming the types of disease consists of three types, namely by basic vocabularies basic, words with affixes, and phrase form. Basic Vocabulary forms are used when they are nouns, and generally tend to be disease suffered by community, especially skin diseases. The way of classifying the disease is based on the location of disease such as types of stomachache, inflammation on the respiratory tract, head, nose, ears, mouth and specially skin.

THE ELLIPSIS OF GRAMMATICAL FUNCTIONS IN COORDINATIVE STRUCTURE OF JAPANESE LANGUAGE

Abstract

ABSTRACT
The discussion in this paper is focused on the ellipsis of grammatical functions in Japanese covering that of the function of grammatical of coordinative structure. The data analiyzed in this paper were taken from The Nihongo no Journal and Shokyuu de Yomeru Topikku 25. The concept of ellipsis was taken from Quirk et al (1985). The ellipsis from Quirk et al (1985) was applied the concept of recoverability from the grammatical point of view:(1) textual recoverability, (2) situational recoverability, and (3) structural recoverability.
Qualitative and synchronic descriptive method were employed in this study. Qualitatively descriptive method was employed to explain and describe the coordinative sentence, whereas the synchronic approach was used to cover the current language phenomena.
The findings show that in the coordinative structure, ellipsis of the function of grammatical subject, ellipsis the function of predicate and ellipsis of the function of object took place. Ellipsis of the function of grammatical in the coordinative structure can be anaphoric or cataphoric. It is called anaphoric because the ellipsis takes place rightward, the controlling constituens are located in the first clauses and the controlled contituens are located in the second clause. It is called cataphoric because the controlling constituens are located in the second clauses and the controlled constituens are located in the first clauses.

Regional Variations of Javanese Speakers "Banyumasan and Yogyakarta" on Youtube

Abstract

A cultural diversity usually in line with language variation. The phenomena of language variation make the Javanese language becomes one of the languages in Indonesia which has many dialects. The interesting thing is digital era lets the language variation easily found in social media. This research was conducted based on the language variation in the Javanese language, especially between Banyumasan and Yogyakarta. This research aims at finding out the regional variation between Banyumasan and Yogyakarta which focused on phonetics, semantics, onomasiological, semasiological, and morphological variations. This research used a descriptive method. The data was transcribed from conversation video on Youtube. The result is the regional variation of Banyumasan and Yogyakarta in videos on Youtube shows dialect differences.

Abstract

Keragaman budaya sebuah daerah biasanya sejalan dengan keragaman bahasanya. Fenomena keragaman variasi bahasa menjadikan bahasa Jawa menjadi salah satu bahasa di Indonesia yang memiliki dialek beragam. Menariknya, era digital membuat data bahasa terkait variasi regional dapat dengan mudahnya ditemukan pada media sosial. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya variasi bahasa regional pada bahasa Jawa, khususnya Banyumasan dan Yogyakarta. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui apa saja variasi regional yang terdapat pada bahasa Jawa Banyumasan dan Yogyakarta, baik dari sisi fonetik, semantik, onomasiologis, semasiologis, dan morfologis. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitalif. Data penelitian ditranskripsikan dari video percakapan di Youtube. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa variasi regional penutur bahasa Jawa Banyumasan dan Yogyakarta pada video di Youtube memperlihatkan perbedaan dialeknya.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan pokok mengembangkan model panduan wisata berbahasa Jerman berbasis budaya Indonesia di Jakarta. Tujuan ini kemudian dijabarkan ke dalam dua hal pokok, yaitu pertama: menghasilkan identifikasi kebutuhan panduan wisata berbahasa Jerman berbasis budaya Indonesia di Jakarta. Kedua: menghasilkan model panduan wisata berbahasa Jerman berbasis budaya Indonesia di Jakarta dan mengimpletasikannya.

Untuk mencapai tujuan penelitian di atas, maka penelitian ini didesain dengan pendekatan penelitian pengembangan (Research and Development) model Borg dan Gall. Langkah-langkah penelitian ini baru pada tahap awal, yaitu: melakukan penelitian dan pengumpulan informasi (reviu literatur, observasi lapangan, studi dokumentasi pada dinas pariwisata dan kebudayaan Propoinsi Jakarta, wawancara wisatawan berbahasa Jerman, pelaku wisata, seperti travel wisata. Sumber-sumber data penelitian tersebut diatas kemudian dianalisis menjadi bahan utama dalam mendesain analisis kebutuhan model panduan wisata berbahasa Jerman berbasis budaya Indonesia di Jakarta.
Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa buku panduan wisata berbasis budaya Indonesia bagi wisatawan berbahasa Jerman di Jakarta sangat perlu dikembangkan. Bentuk-bentuk pengembangan buku panduan wisata berbasis budaya ini berwujud pada dua hal, yaitu pertama, aspek yang terkait dengan isi buku panduan wisata yang meliputi jenis obyek wisata, fasilitas rekreasi, fasilitas tambahan lainnya. Jenis-jenis obyek wisata yang dibutuhkan oleh responden adalah sebagai berikut: 1) objek wisata berupa wisata alam, 2) obyek wisata berupa wisata budaya, dan 3) obyek wisata berupa wisata kuliner. Fasilitas rekreasi yang dibutuhkan oleh para rensponden dalam menentukan obyek wisata yang dipilih dan dituju adalah: 1) adanya lokasi berjemur renang, 2) adanya lokasi berselancar, dan 3) adanya kolam renang. Sedangkan fasilitas rekreasi tambahan selain yang telah disebutkan di atas yang dibutuhkan oleh para responden dalam menentukan obyek wisata yang dipilih dan dituju adalah: 1) adanya pusat informasi, 2) adanya ITC (Tourism Information Center), 3) adanya tempat kuliner, 4) adanya papan informasi, dan 5) adanya pemadam kebakaran dan hydrant.
Kedua, aspek budaya Indonesia. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan perlunya buku panduan wisata di Jakarta dikemas dengan perspektif budaya Indonesia, karena dengan pemahaman budaya Indonesia secara baik dapat membantu dalam melakukan wisata selama berkunjung ke Indonesia. Tema-tema budaya yang paling dibutuhkan wisatawan berbahasa Jerman dalam buku panduan wisata adalah: 1) tema kesenian, 2) tema pakaian tradisional, 3) tema kuliner, 4) tema upacara keagamaan, dan 5) tema kehidupan sosial.

Abstract

Toponimi merupakan cabang dari onomastika yang menyelidiki nama tempat. Kabupaten Karawang merupakan salah satu wilayah yang terletak di utara Jawa Barat dengan sistem toponimi yang sarat akan aspek fisik dan sosial dan budaya. Penelitian ini membahas tentang makna di balik toponimi kecamatan yang ada di Kabupaten Karawang dengan pisau analisis yang digukanan adalah etnosemantik. Metode penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa terdapat beragam toponimi dari tiga puluh kecamatan yang ada di Kabupaten Karawang. Aspek hidrologis merupakan yang paling dominan dalam sistem toponimi kecamatan di Karawang. Temuan tersebut dapat mempertegas pernyataan bahwa wilayah Karawang dahulunya memang merupakan wilayah yang berawa dengan sumber air yang berlimpah, sehingga banyak masyarakatnya yang menuangkan harapan terhadap wilayahnya tersebut dalam pemberian nama pada aspek sosial dan budaya. Julukan kota padi dan lumbung padi yang pernah diemban oleh Kabupaten Karawang juga menjadi bukti bahwa dulunya wilayah ini adalah rawa dan memiliki banyak sumber air seperti yang tertuang dalam toponimi kecamatan.

Abstract

Toponimi is a branch of onomastika that investigates the names of places. Karawang regency is one of the areas located in the north of West Java with toponimi system that is full of physical and socio-cultural aspects. This study discusses the meaning behind toponimi districts that exist in Karawang regency with a knife analysis that is used is ethnosemantik. The method of this research is qualitative descriptive. The results of this study revealed that there are various toponimi origins from thirty districts in Karawang regency. The hydrological aspect is the most dominant in the sub district toponimi system in Karawang. The findings can reinforce the assertion that the Karawang region was once a swampy region with abundant water resources, so many people who pour their hopes for the region in naming the socio-cultural aspects. The nickname of paddy city and granary rice ever carried by Karawang regency is also proof that once this region is a swamp and has many sources of water as stated in toponimi kecamatan.

Abstract

Penerjemahan Bahasa Mandarin Indonesia merupakan salah satu kemampuan wajib yang dilatihkan kepada mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Mandarin Universitas Negeri Jakarta (PSPBM UNJ) melalui mata kuliah Terjemahan Mandarin Indonesia (TMI). Mata kuliah ini merupakan salah satu mata kuliah keahlian yang wajib diikuti mahasiswa dan diselenggarakan pada semester V setelah mahasiswa dinyatakan lulus mata kuliah kebahasaan tingkat dasar yang mencakup keterampilan menyimak (I hingga IV), keterampilan berbicara (I hingga IV), keterampilan membaca (I hingga IV), keterampilan menulis (I hingga IV) dan tata bahasa (I hingga IV). Dalam pelaksanaannya, mata kuliah TMI ini bergantung penuh pada kemampuan membaca dan menulis mahasiswa. Kemampuan mahasiswa melakukan proses penerjemahan bergantung pada kemampuan mahasiswa untuk memahami beragam bacaan atau teks berbahasa Mandarin dan kemampuan mengungkapkan ulang pikiran, ide atau gagasan dalam bahasa Indonesia yang baik dan benar. Penelitian ini memaparkan temuan terkait kemampuan mahasiswa PSPBM UNJ semester V pada saat menjalani proses penerjemahan dari L2 (bahasa Mandarin) ke L1 (bahasa Indonesia). Temuan ini mencakup pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap makna penerjemahan, perilaku ketika melakukan proses penerjemahan, alat yang digunakan saat menerjemah, hingga produk/hasil terjemahan mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan melakukan observasi dan analisis kesalahan dan analisis kesepadanan terhadap proses dan produk terjemahan mahasiswa PSPBM UNJ semester V tahun ketiga pada angkatan 2014/2015 dan 2015/2016 sebanyak 35 mahasiswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan dan memaparkan penerjemahan gaya bahasa metafora dan simile dalam novel Uesugi Kenshin karya Eiji Yoshikawa dan terjemahannya Uesugi Kenshin oleh Ribeka Ota. Sumber data primer dalam penelitian ini adalah kalimat-kalimat yang di dalamnya terkandung gaya bahasa metafora dan simile dalam novel Uesugi Kenshin karya Eiji Yoshikawa dan terjemahannya Uesugi Kenshin oleh Ribeka Ota.
Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif, yaitu menggunakan deskripsi melalui kata-kata yang diaplikasikan dengan cara menganalisis data terjemahan berdasarkan teori prosedur penerjemahan yang dikemukakan oleh Newmark (1988). Prosedur penerjemahan tersebut meliputi transference, cultural equivalent, neutralisation, literal translation, label, naturalisation, componential analysis, deletion, couplet, accepted standard translation, paraphrase, and classifier. Pengklasifikasian data dilakukan berdasarkan ke-12 prosedur penerjemahan tersebut.
Melalui beberapa prosedur tersebut, penulis mencoba untuk mengetahui sejauh mana penerjemah berupaya untuk menerjemahkan gaya bahasa metafora dan simile bahasa Jepang ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat membantu menanggulangi kesulitan ketika menerjemahkan gaya bahasa metafora dan simile bahasa Jepang. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dapat menjadi referensi bagi penerjemah, calon penerjemah, dan siapa saja yang tertarik dalam bidang penerjemahan.

Abstract

According to Austin, when speak, people not only speaking but also acting, whereas according to Searle, the communication is not merely symbols, words or sentences, but more a result of behavior. The end phrase in a sentence can expressed his intention to the listener. Speech can be expressed through oral and written. The focus of this study is locutions, illocution, and perlocution speech acts, type of speech act, effect of speech acts and the end phrase in a sentence.
This study used a qualitative approach using content analysis research method by reading novel Noruwei no Mori which consist of 2 series; Noruwei No Mori Jou and Noruwei no Mori Ka. Conversation of three main characters in the novels are found 845 conversation which 420 of them found in Noruwei No Mori Jou and the rest found in Noruwei no Mori Ka. Each conversation used speech act such as locution, illocution or perlocution. From these speech acts are found the types of speech acts which may affect the effect of speech acts. The end phrase in a sentence or bunmatsu hyougen have relation in the speech acts and other types of speech acts.

IMPOLITENESS IN INDONESIAN LANGUAGE ON FACEBOOK AS A CULTURAL ILLITERACY REPRESENTATION

Abstract

Social changes that occur in Indonesia affect the Indonesian language and its use. The increasing strength of transparency values in Indonesia causes the media freely to reveal everything to criticize social phenomena. The presence of informatics technology also changed the way humans to communicate from the real world to the virtual world. Information dissemination is no longer the dominance of conventional media, but has been replaced by new social media.
This research is based on the reality of Indonesian usage in social media - facebook - that is vulgar, destructive, full of blasphemy, insult, sarcasm, and tend to be provocative. A data collected by Kompas newspaper shown that during January to 2 February 2017 there were 1,656 complaints about defamatory information and incitement in social media. In some cases, such slander and sedition leads to religious, ethnic, and ethnic issues. This condition has the potential to trigger conflicts that could disrupt the stability of pluralistic of Indonesian society. According to Watss, Politeness was thus instrumental in creating and maintaining a strictly hierarchical and elitist social structure, and it was used as a means of enforcing social differences. In this sense, it is indeed a highly efficient way of policing society.
By using descriptive qualitative method, this paper tries to see and discuss: (1) portrait of Indonesian politeness in social media i.e. facebook, (2) factor causing waning of language politeness in social media. Abstract

Umpan balik bagi seorang pengajar setelah selesai mengajar masih sangat diperlukan. Ini diperlukan terutama saat pengajar tersebut sedang berupaya menuju kepada suatu cara atau sistem peningkatan sumber daya manusia yang akan meningkatkan kualitas dan kapasitasnya sebagai seorang pengajar.. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam rangka keikutsertaan pengajar dalam program Capacity Building (CB) yang diadakan oleh The Japan Foundation. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui umpan balik dari para mahasiswa dan observer pada pengajaran membaca level B1 yang berbasis JF pada Standard.. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif terhadap kegiatan pengajaran mikro membaca level B1 pada program Capacity Building di Kansai Center Osaka pada sesi Saishuu Seika Happyou (Presentasi Hasil). Pengajaran dilaksanakan dengan formasi mahasiswa dari berbagai perguruan tinggi di Indonesia dan para pengajar juga dari berbagai perguruan tinggi di Indonesia. Mahasiswa berjumlah 8 orang dan para pengajar 8 orang. Para pengajar secara bergiliran melakukan pengajaran mikro selama 45 menit kepada 8 orang mahasiswa yang memiliki kualifikasi bahasa Jepang setara level B1 menurut standar Japan Foundation. Pengajaran dilaksanakan dengan tema nihon rikai-ibunka rikai. Data dikumpulkanj dengan 3 cara, yakni pengamatan, perekaman gambar, dan penyebaran angket. Hasilnya dianalisis dari aspek : alur pengajaran, ibunka rikai, pengelolaan waktu terhadap isi materi,

Literacy is the basis of communication. There are two different kinds of literacy, literacy in the form of ability to read and write (proper literacy) and cultural literacy. A literate reader knows the object-languages alphabet, grammar, and a sufficient set of vocabulary while a culturally literate person knows a given cultures signs and symbols, including its language, particular dialectic, stories, entertainment, idioms, idiosyncrasies, and so on. Translation is the kind of communication which involves two languages and two cultures. Hence, literacy is not only in reading and writing the text but also in comprehending the cultural issues, which is the ability to transfer cultural aspects found in the source text to target text. The gap between languages and cultures may create problems that hinder the fluency of communication so as in translation; the gap may create misunderstanding on achieving similar meaning as meant in the source language. Idiomatic expression is one of aspects in attaining cultural literacy. This paper aims to find out what is the aspect of cultural literacy that is the idiomatic expression found in translating English novel The Bonesetters Daughter. This paper also tries to analyze how the translation of idiomatic expression may ignite students awareness of literacy in culture. This study uses students from semester five (5) due to the reason that they have been taught the subject of Introduction to Translation. Students are asked to translate texts from the novel and the writer then analyzes on the way they translated the idiomatic expressions. Students are also then required to fill in question in regards to their understanding of the idiomatic expression in the novel. The result of the study is anticipated as that that some students are still having difficulties in translating idiomatic expressions due to their lack of exposure and understanding on those culturally-bound expressions.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate symptoms of cancer treatment behaviors that are represented in Indonesian fiction, their objective reality in society, and the relevance. This research is a qualitative research with orientation of sociology of literature approach. Data sources of imaginative reality in treatment behavior of cancer patients are six Indonesian fiction in form of novels and short stories that reveal the treatment behavior of cancer patients problems. Data sources of objective reality in treatment behavior of cancer patients are in form of newspapers articles, magazines, research reports, and books that reveal the reality in the community behind the fiction that being studied. The results show men and women deals with cancer and have differences in cultural and social backgrounds. Types of occurred cancer are cervical cancer, lung cancer, and breast cancer in acute stage. Treatment behavior of cancer patiens are to telling the symptoms to family members, tell the pain to family members, making contact with health services, undergo therapy and treatment in conventional and alternative ways, and being satisfied with the health services. The treatment behavior of cancer patients in Indonesian fiction is a reflection of some reality in society.

Abstract

Sastra lisan memberikan kekhasanahan dalam sastra Indonesia, seperti cerita Babad Tawangaalung yang ditembangkan dalam berbagai tembang jawa. Cerita Babad Tawangalun mencerminkan bentuk kekuasan raja-raja di Jawa. Kekuasaan raja dalam budaya Jawa mempunyai konsep sakti-mandraguna, mukti-wibawa. Mandraguna menunjukkan kepada kecakapan, kemampuan, ataupun ketrampilan dalam satu atau beberapa bidang, seperti olah senjata, kesenian, pengetahuan, dan sebagainya. Sedangkan, data penelitian ini berupa teks hasil apresiasi mahasiswa, sehingga penelitian nmenggunakan metode analisis kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini adalah bahwa cerita babad Tawangalun terdapat konsep kekuasaan raja Jawa yaitu luas wilayah kerajaannya, luasnya daerah atau kerajaan taklukan dan berbagai barang persembahan yang disampaikan oleh para raja taklukan, kesetian para bupati dan punggawa lainnya dalam menunaikan tugas kerajaan dan kehadiran mereka dalam paseban yang diselenggarakan pada hari-hari tertentu, kebesaran dan kemeriahan upacara kerajaan dan banyaknya pusaka serta perlengkapan upacara yang tampak dalam upacara itu, besarnya tentara dengan segala jenis perlengkapannya, kekayaan, gelar-gelar yang disandang dan kemashurannya, dan seluruh kekuasaan menjadi satu ditangannya, tanpa ada yang menyamai dan menandingi.

Oral literature provides uniqueness in Indonesian literature, such as the story of Babad Tawangaalung which was developed in various tembang java. The story of Babad Tawangalun reflects the power form of kings in Java. The kings power in Javanese culture has the concept of power hero, authority. power hero demonstrates skills, abilities, or skills in one or more areas, such as weapons, arts, knowledge, and so on. While, this research data in the form of text of student appreciation, so that research nmenggunakan qualitative descriptive analysis method. The results of this research is that the story of Tawangalun chronicle there is the concept of power of the king of Java is the area of his kingdom, the extent of the territory or conquered kingdom and various offerings presented by the conquered king, the loyalty of the regents and other bodyguard in fulfilling the duties of the kingdom and their presence in paseban held on certain days, the greatness and excitement of the royal ceremonies and the many heirlooms and ceremonies that appear in the ceremony, the magnitude of the army with all its means of equipment, the wealth, the titles it carries and its fame, and all power becomes one in his hand, that matches and matches.

Cerita rakyat merupakan bagian dari kebudayaan sastra lisan yang ada di tengah-tengah masyarakat. Seperti diketahui bahwa cerita rakyat memiliki variasi dan perbedaan disetiap negara. Tetapi, tidak menutup kemungkinan suatu negara mengadopsi sebuah cerita dari negara yang lain. Keragaman ini sangat menarik untuk diteliti, karena disamping variasinya, terdapat berbagai nilai antara lain: (a) nilai estetika, (b) nilai budaya dan (c) kearifan lokal. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk membuat sebuah media berbasis komunikasi sebagai media pembelajaran sastra yang baru. Media ini juga bertujuan untuk diskusi antar negara yang memiliki kesamaan cerita rakyat. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat melihat hasil dari diskusi cerita rakyat untuk mengetahui berbagai nilai yang berbeda antara sebuah cerita yang sama di wilayah Asia.

Abstract
Folklore as part of a culture is one of oral literature in the midst of society. It has been known that folklore has variations and differences in each country. However, it does not rule out a country adopting a story from another country. This diversity is very interesting to examine, because in addition to its variations, there are various values including: (a) aesthetic value, (b) cultural value and (c) local wisdom. This article aims to create a media-based communication as a new literary learning media. This media also aims for discussion between countries that have similarities in folklore. This research is expected to see results of the discussion of folklore to know the different values between a similar story in the Asian region.

Kuda lumping merupakan tradisi lisan masyarakat Jawa yang masih ada hingga sekarang. Kuda lumping selain memiliki fungsi hiburan, mengandung fungsi lain serta makna yang dalam. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan fungsi dan sruktur yang melekat pada pertunjukan kuda lumping dan memaknai unsur heroik pada pertunjukan kuda lumping berdasarkan pertunjukan kuda lumping yang dipentaskan oleh tim Among Rogo. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif menggunakan teori fungsi tradisi lisan dan heroik. Metode yang digunakan ialah etnografi berupa observasi, rekaman, dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pertunjukan kuda lumping memiliki fungsi sebagai hiburan, pendidikan dan unsur heroik yang termanifestasi pada gerakan singa barong dan prajurit kuda lumping.

Abstract
Kuda Lumping is an oral tradition of Javanese society which still exist until today. The function of Kuda lumping is not only as entertainer, but also contain other functions and deeper meaning. The aims of this research are to describe the functions and structures attached to kuda lumping performances and to interpret the heroic element of the kuda lumping based on kuda lumping performance which performed by Among Rogo team. This research is a qualitative research using the function of oral tradition theory and the heroic concept. The method used is ethnography in the form of observation, recording, and interview. The results of this study indicate that kuda lumping performance has entertainment and education function. The heroic elements manifest in the movement of barong lions and kuda lumping warrior.

More than What was Bargained for: The Use of Memes and WhatsApp Message in Teaching Literature

Abstract

This essay is based on an experiment conducted in two course subjects I was given responsibility for (Survey of Contemporary Literature in English and Further Studies in Prose), involving the use of memes and WhatsApp message. The initial reason for this was to make classroom activities less monotonous. The memes were retrieved from History in Memes Twitter account, whereas the WhatsApp message was obtained from an actual message delivered to a WhatsApp group in which I am a member. At the beginning of each session, the memes and WhatsApp message relevant to the topic of classroom discussion were displayed on the screen. As a trigger for discussion, this method proved to be effective as students began to show facial and verbal reactions towards what was displayed. What started as a modest intention develops into a more profound result as students showed different degrees of knowledge in popular culture when interpreting the memes and message. This triggered an analysis on reception of information implied on the memes and message, which was influenced by the students intercultural experience. This essay thus mainly tackles with intercultural competencies contingently implanted to students when trying to interpret and find relevance to the memes and message with the topic of classroom discussion. Grounding its theoretical concepts from Brodie (1996), Blackmore (1997), Shifman (2014), and Crystal (2013), this essay proposes an argument that as part of evolutionary advancement in technology of todays digital culture, memes and text messages are vital in sharpening students perceptiveness in making sense of their fast-pacing world. Also, in relation to the teaching of literature, the memes and message provide tropes that bridge students comprehension on the literary works discussed in the classroom.

Abstract

Kebudayaan yang ada di Indonesia menjadi citra bagi suatu masyarakat sesuai dengan wilayah, sejarah, dan keberagaman kondisi geografi dan demografinya. Kebudayaan merupakan representasi masyarakat yang menempati suatu wilayah dengan corak khas tertentu. Dalam mengkaji nilai-nilai budaya yang ada dalam suatu masyarakat, salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan adalah dengan cara mengamati melalui salah satu produk ciptaan masyarakat tersebut yang antara lain berupa sastra, yang di dalamnya termasuk cerita rakyat. Hal tersebut disebabkan cerita rakyat dapat dipandang sebagai media yang cukup efektif untuk merepresentasikan nilai-nilai kebudayaan yang tumbuh dan berkembang dalam masyarakat.
Kebudayaan adalah sistem gagasan, tindakan, dan hasil karya yang kemudian distilahkan sebagai wujud kebudayaan yang antara lain berupa sistem gagasan, yang meliputi kepercayaan, norma-norma, adat-istiadat, pandangan hidup, dan nilai-nilai. Sistem gagasan tersebut bersifat kognitif, konseptual, tidak dapat dipegang, tidak eksplisit, abstrak, serta berada dalam tataran pikiran.Permasalahan dasar dalam kajian ini adalah pengungkapan sistem gagasan dengan cara menggali kandungan nilai-nilai budaya dalam cerita rakyat Indonesia. Pengungkapan nilai-nilai budaya dalam kajian ini dikategorisasikan ke dalam lima hubungan manusia, yakni (a) hubungan manusia dengan Tuhan, (b) hubungan manusia dengan alam, (c) hubungan manusia dengan masyarakat, (d) hubungan manusia dengan manusia, (e) hubungan manusia dengan diri sendiri.
Sesuai dengan permasalahan tersebut, kajian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan dan mengungkapkan nilai-nilai budaya yang terkandung dalam cerita rakyat Indonesia. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan pragmatik. Pendekatan pragmatik memandang karya sastra sebagai sesuatu yang dibangun untuk mencapai efek-efek tertentu bagi pembaca, antara lain kesenangan estetik dan ajaran atau pendidikan. Pendekatan pragmatik bertujuan mengetahui kemampuan karya sastra memberikan edukasi, kenikmatan, kegunaan, dan menggerakkan pembaca untuk berkegiatan yang bertanggung jawab.

This research aims to describe the meanings contained in Warige symbols as cultural tool in Sasak community. Warige is maintained by the Sasak community especially by the older generation, which also shifting significantly to the younger group age recently. Theories used in this research are semiotic, sociolinguistics and cultural theory. Face-to-face conversation method combined with recording and note-taking methods were conducted as the methods to collect data needed for this research. According to the analysis of the data, it was found that symbols such as box and boxtimes have their own meaning on the culture of Sasak community where in present time both the meaning and language in these symbols can be maintained successfully by the older community member primarily.

Social Concept in Tanin no Kao by Abe Kobo

Abstract

The novel reflects reality, not by painting a face that is only visible on the surface, but by giving us a more correct, more complete, more vibrant, and more dynamic reflection of reality.
Abe Kobo is a contemporary Japanese writer who is regarded as an observer and commentator of contemporary life because his work often speaks of conditions that are always related to contemporary human life, namely loss of identity, alienation, individual isolation, and difficulty communicating between people in urban society.
The concept of alienation is also one of the main themes in the flow of existentialist philosophy. The pioneers of the existentialist philosophy include Martin Heidegger, Jean Paul Satre, Franz Kafka, Albert Camus, and so on.
Alienation is a Western concept which is then combined with the life of East by Abe Kobo into his novel is interesting and needs to be studied deeper.
One of Abe Kobos novel which figure is being alienated is reflected in Tanin no Kao. This is the impetus for me to examine how Abe Kobo combines the concept of alienation that originated from the West with typical eastern features in his novel.
Abe Kobo through this novel conveys the various urban anxieties that occur in general in the world in post-World War II. A typical Japanese human anxiety in this story is how the figure is aware of the existence of seken that govern their social life.
The I figure in TNK after his face was damaged, experiencing various anxieties that made him withdraw himself from the society. In order to reconnect with the outside world, he uses a variety of ways, and end up wearing a mask as his medium.
In an attempt to re-establish relationships with his social environment known as seken in Japanese, the I figure stuck with the concept that exists in the social value of the Japanese society, that is; soto, uchi, honne, tatemae and enryo because of the inner conflict he has.

Abstract
This article discusses the politeness values contained in the Minangkabau folklore entitled "Kuduak Batu Jawi". Understanding and transforming the value of politeness to the readers, especially the younger generation in an effort to form the character of the nation, become an important part that must be done at this time. This story tells about the act of disrespectful speech done by a child to both parents. As a result of the speech that is not polite it gets rewarded from Allah. The child receives a curse sanction in the form of a change of his being into a stone similar to the cows neck. This form is related to the day-to-day task of the child who is a cowherd.
The content of ideology of politeness contained in folklore is a potential value that is very valuable to be socialized to the reader. Especially when the Indonesian nation is facing the danger of moral decadence among the younger generation today. The deep and holistic interpretation of the folklore owned by each tribe in Indonesia, is absolutely and importantly done. This research article becomes one of the alternatives in that direction.

Integritas, altruism, dan pluralism penting untuk dikenalkan dan dipahami karena saat ini teknologi memungkinkan manusia saling terhubung dan berdekatan satu sama lain. Tiga ide abstrak ini dimungkinkan untuk dikenalkan melalui sastra anak. Oleh karenanya fakta bahwa sastra anak dapat digunakan untuk mengajarkan tiga ide abstrak tersebut melalui teks verbal dan visual merupakan hal baru yang seharusnya diajarkan kepada khalayak luas. Sampai saat ini, sastra anak diteliti dari segi pedagogisnya, dari kemanfaatannya untuk pendidikan karakter, dan adanya kekerasan simbolik di dalamnya, sedangkan kemampuannya untuk mengenalkan pentingnya integritas, altruism, dan pluralism masih jarang diteliti. Mengingat hal ini, studi ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan bahwa sastra anak dapat dijadikan media dalam mengenalkan ide tentang integritas, altruisme, dan pluralisme. Material yang akan dikaji adalah buku cerita bergambar berjudul Listen to the Wind dari Amerika. Kajian ini bersifat kualitatif dan akan menggunakan teori Multimodal Discourse Analysis sebagai alat untuk menganalisi teks verbal dan teks visual dalam buku. Bahasa verbal berarti seluruh konstruksi sintaksis dan pilihan diksi yang memiliki makna tertentu dan bahasa visual artinya semua gambar yang mengemukakan gagasan tertentu yang mensuport dan berjalan secara sinergis dengan bahasa verbal dalam buku.

Abstract
Integrity, altruism, and pluralism are imperative today as technology makes people are easily linked and get closed to each other. What interest much is the idea that actually these three notions can be conceived in children literature. It is thus novel to show how children book is in fact could strongly and effectively display such abstract value and belief in the form of verbal and visual languages. To date, mostly children literature is examined for its function to enhance character building, studied from pedagogical point of view, and discussed for the symbolic violence in it. But, its ability to introduce abstract notion is underrepresented. Given this, the purpose of this study is to find whether children literature could convey the three notions. Material that are going to be scrutinized are Listen To The Wind from United States. This is a qualitative study and by the use of Multimodal Discourse Analysis the book is dissected for its verbal and visual languages to demonstrate the notion of integrity, altruism, and pluralism. Verbal language means the lexis and syntax which are meaningful and visual language means all images of the book which put forward particular notion which support or go hand in hand with the verbal language.

Arek Culture in Literary Work

Abstract

This study aims to describe Arek culture in literary works. Arek culture is one of the cultures in East Java which its ideological center is in Surabaya. The people are known for their egalitarian, open, democratic, and having high solidarity characters. Community knowledge about Arek culture is very limited and its values are increasingly eroded. One means to disseminate knowledge about Arek culture is through literary works written by authors from these cultural regions. The problem that arises is how Arek culture is described in literary works. Indonesian Novel Mencari Sarang Angin and Ibu Kita Raminten, an anthology of Javanese short stories Trem, Javanese novel Sarunge Jagung, an anthology of Javanese poetry Donga Kembang Waru and Sastra Campur Sari were selected by the writers through purposive sampling technique, because they depict Areks culture life. Data collection was done by reading and note-taking techniques. From the study, it was found that there are four Areks culture elements in literary works, namely language, social organizations, knowledge systems, and arts. The four elements are the same as the description of Arek culture in real life which is revealed through scientific studies. Therefore, these works can be used as reading material to increase knowledge about Arek culture and its values.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan aspek sosial-budaya kaum eksil dalam buku puisi Di Negeri Orang (Puisi Penyair Indonesia Eksil). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan sosiologi sastra yang menekankan pada teks sebagai objek kajian. Data dalam penelitian ini terdiri atas kata, kutipan, dan kalimat pada buku puisi Di Negeri Orang (Puisi Penyair Indonesia Eksil). Sumber data penelitian ini adalah 73 puisi yang dipilih dari 144 puisi dalam buku puisi Di Negeri Orang (Puisi Penyair Indonesia Eksil) yang diterbitkan pada tahun 2002 oleh penerbit Amanah Lontar bekerja sama dengan Yayasan Sejarah Budaya Indonesia. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan ialah teknik analisis dokumen. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah metode dialektik. Dari 73 puisi yang dianalisis, terdapat beberapa aspek sosial-budaya yang ditemukan, yaitu (1) gambaran perbandingan budaya antara Indonesia dan negara tempat tinggal kaum eksil; (2) representasi kerinduan kaum eksil terhadap Tanah Air; dan (3) perspektif atau pandangan kaum eksil terhadap kehidupan masyarakat di Indonesia dan negeri yang ditinggalinya.


This study aims to describe the socio-cultural aspects of the exiles in the book of poetry Di Negeri Orang (Puisi Penyair Indonesia Eksil). This research uses descriptive qualitative method with literature sociology approach which emphasize on text as object of study. The data in this study are words, quotations, and sentences in the book of poetry Di Negeri Orang (Puisi Penyair Indonesia Eksil). The source of this research data is 73 poems selected from 144 poems contained in the book of poetry Di Negeri Orang (Puisi Penyair Indonesia Eksil) published in 2002 by publisher Amanah Lontar in cooperation with Yayasan Sejarah Budaya Indonesia. Data collection techniques used in this study is a document analysis techniques. Data analysis technique used is dialectical method. Of the 73 poems analyzed, there are several socio-cultural aspects found, namely (1) a cultural comparison picture between Indonesia and the country where the exiles lived; (2) representation of the longing of the exiles towards the homeland; and (3) the perspective or views of the exiles on the life of the people of Indonesia and the countries in which they live.

Abstrak

Tulisan ini mengkaji tentang nilai budaya yang terkandung dalam Tembang Batanghari Sembilan. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana sturktur dan fungsi Tembang Batanghari Sembilan ? dannilai budaya apa saja yang terkandung dalam Tembang Batanghari Sembilan?. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis isi yang mendeskripsikan struktur dan fungsi Tembang Batanghari Sembilan itu sendiri. Data penelitian ini berasal dari penyanyi Tembang Batanghari Sembilan dan sejumlah rekaman terkait Tembang Batanghari Sembilan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa Tembang Batanghari Sembilan memiliki struktur layaknya seperti pantun yang memiliki 4 sampai dengan 6 baris serta memiliki struktur parallel yang menggambarkan dua hal yang beroposisi. Fungsi Tembang Batanghari Sembilan sendiri lebih banyak sebagai hiburan, nasehat, penyampai maksud, daln lain sebagainya. Adapun nilai-nilai budaya yang didapatkan adalah nilai kesederhanaan, nilai peradatan, nilai kemanusiaan.

Abstract

ABSTRAK

Pada era globalisasi banyak terjadi perubahan dan pergeseran nilai-nilai budaya di dalam masyarakat Melayu, menyebabkan gurindam dan sastra rakyat lainnya terabaikan. Masyarakat Melayu saat ini lebih tertarik membaca media sosial dibandingkan membaca karya sastra, khususnya generasi muda. Generasi muda semakin jauh dari tradisi yang dianut apalagi jika dikaitkan degradasi dan dekadensi moral yang sangat berbeda dengan anak muda pada masa lalu. Oleh karena itu, tujuan penelitian ini menganalisis dan mengiterpretasikan nilai-nilai dalam sastra rakyat khususnya gurindam yang bersifat memberikan keteladan kepada generasi muda. Hal tersebut perlu untuk diteliti sebagai bentuk sumbangsih pembangunan mental dan pembentuk karakter. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif dengan metode content analysis . Data penelitian ini bersumber dari buku Tunjuk Ajar Melayu Karya Tenas Effendy tahun 2013. Data yang diteliti didokumentasi dengan cara membaca, mencatat selanjutnya disimpulkan dan dikelompokkan berdasarkan nilai-nilai budaya yang terkandung di dalamnya. Berdasarkan pengamatan penulis, tunjuk ajar Melayu dalam gurindam karya Tenas Effendy tersebut memberikan sumbangsih nilai-nilai budaya di antaranya tanggung jawab, patuh, memberi nasihat, menghormati, keterbukaan, memperhatikan, mencintai, menyayangi, manja, dan kesetian.

ABSTRACT

In the era of globalization many changes and shifts in cultural values in the Malay society, causing gurindam and other peoples literature is neglected. Todays Malays are more interested in reading social media than reading literature, especially the younger generation. The younger generation farther away from the tradition adopted especially when it is associated with degradation and moral decadence that is very different from the young in the past. Therefore, the purpose of this study to analyze and interpret the values of culture in peoples literature, especially gurindam that gives exemplary to the younger generation. It is necessary to be examined as a form of contribution of mental development and character formation. This research is descriptive with content analysis method. The data of this research are sourced from Tenas Effendy Workbook of Melayu Karya in 2013. The data studied is documented by reading, taking notes and summarizing them based on cultural values and education contained in them. Based on the writers observation, the teaching of Malay in Tenur Effendys gurindam gives contribution of cultural values such as responsibility, obedience, giving advice, respecting, openness, caring, loving, loving, spoiling, and loyalty.

Abstract

Tujuan dari kajian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peran agama dalam proses pembentukan aktualisasi diri tokoh Siddhartha sebagai tokoh utama dalam novel Siddhartha. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam kajian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi. Data analisis berupa teks-teks yang terdapat dalam novel. Analisis data menggunakan Teknik triangulasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ajaran Budha dan Hindu telah mengajarkan berbagai hal melalui kegiatan keagamaan yang dilakukan oleh Siddhartha menemukan aktualisasi dirinya.

Building Humanity Values Through Maya Angelous Poems

Abstract

Kemenristekdikti Indonesia stipulates that all graduates of academic, vocational, and professional education must have some attitudes which among others are appreciating the diversity of cultures, views, religion, and beliefs of others and having social sensitivity and concern for society and environment. Poetry can be one means of establishing attitudes through various humanitarian issues in its dense diction. Maya Angelous poem was chosen because of the thick humanity issues in her works. The analysis was done by semiotic theory and sociology of literature. The results show that Maya Angelou poems contain moral values that can build an equal value of human being and solidarity between people.

Abstract

Cultural values that is manifested in children literatures are always interesting to explore. The issues on the aspect of moral values, integrity, ethics, altruism and cultural literacy in many kinds of children literature become the focus of this paper. Especially, those that contributes to the developing of materials to be used in undergraduate level. This paper also highlights how the issue is described and represented on those text.

This research uses descriptive qualitative method and employs theories on children literature and cultural studies. The corpus of the study comprises of classical and contemporary children literature including novel, adventure stories, poetry. The result of the study is expected to show certain values manifested on children literature that becomes the corpus of the research. Also the result is expected to offer an alternative way to select a children literary text to be used in undergraduate level.

Abstract

Patriarchal culture creates inequality in gender roles, women is positioned as men subordinate who must submissive to their dominant. Various stereotypes and stigmas are attached to women as persons who are weak, passive, dependence on men, and helpless. Patriarchal culture has rigid rules framework and values, and women who violate those rules and values would get social sanctions, such as mockery, harassment and marginalization. Punk culture as subculture, which challenges all the rules and values of patriarchal culture as the mainstream culture is also not detached from gender inequality which is built from those stereotypes and stigmas. This study aims to reveals how women in punk community construct their identities and empower themselves through punk rock music which is dominated by males. This study is descriptive analytical study, which applies the concepts of Performativity by Judith Butler, and Female Masculinity by Judith Halberstam to see how women identities are constructed through the main character, Emily, a tomboy girl in searching and negotiating her identity as female punk rock vocalist to reach her dream as the first female Rock God. The tomboy main character utilizes her female masculinity in order to be recognized and accepted in punk rock band community. The female masculinity indicates that gender roles are social construction, which is shaped through performativity. The concept of female masculinity, which is offered by this novel, is one of the strategies to construct women identities and an alternative for women to empower themselves in males dominated community and also to deconstruct gender roles, which is considered fixed and stable.

Budaya patriarki menciptakan ketimpangan dalam peran gender, perempuan diposisikan sebagai subordinat yang harus submisif pada laki-laki sebagai dominannya. Berbagai steotip dan stigma dilekatkan pada perempuan sebagai sosok yang lemah, pasif, tergantung pada laki-laki, dan kurang berdaya. Budaya patriarki memiliki kerangka aturan dan nilai-nilai yang sangat ketat, dan perempuan yang melanggarnya akan mendapatkan sangsi sosial berupa cemoohan, pelecehan sampai pemarjinalan. Budaya punk sebagai subbudaya yang menentang aturan-aturan dan nilai-nilai budaya patriarki sebagai budaya arus utama juga tidak lepas dari ketimpangan peran gender yang terbangun dari stereotip dan stigma tersebut. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan bagaimana perempuan dalam komunitas punk mengkonstruksi identitasnya sebagai perempuan dan memberdayakan diri mereka melalui jalur musik punk rock yang didominasi laki-laki. Kajian ini merupakan kajian deskriptif analitis yang menggunakan konsep Performativitas dari Judith Butler, dan Maskulinitas Perempuan dari Judith Halberstam untuk melihat bagaimana identitas perempuan dikonstruksi melalui tokoh utama, Emily, seorang gadis tomboi dalam mencari dan menegosiasi identitasnya sebagai vokalis band punk rock perempuan untuk meraih impiannya sebagai Rock God perempuan pertama. Tokoh utama yang tomboi memanfaatkan maskulinitas perempuannya agar dapat diakui dan diterima di dalam komunitas band punk rock. Maskulinitas perempuan ini menunjukkan bahwa peran gender adalah suatu konstruksi sosial yang dibentuk lewat performativitas. Konsep maskulinitas perempuan yang ditawarkan oleh novel ini adalah salah satu strategi untuk mengkonstruksi identitas perempuan dan suatu alternatif agar perempuan dapat memberdayakan dirinya dalam komunitas yang didominasi laki-laki serta untuk meruntuhkan peran gender yang selama ini dianggap tetap dan stabil.

Humanity Values in The Oyster and the Pearl and The Case of Crushed Petunias Drama

Abstract

This study aims at examining humanity values in drama scripts used as teaching materials in drama class. The use of drama scripts with humanity values was considered as the implementation of Indonesian education regulation about character building implemented from elementary to higher level of education in Indonesia. The source of the data are the drama scripts of The Oyster and the Pearl by William Saroyan and the Case of Crushed Petunias by Tenessee William. This study analysed the sentences and words in the narration and dialogue indicating humanity values, the theme, and conflict as data by referring to semiotic theory. This study used descriptive analytical study as a research method. The result reveals that these drama scripts have humanity values in terms of honesty and integrity shown by the main characters as shown by Harry in the Oyster and the Pearl and the Man in the Case of Crushed Petunias, in responding to other characters conflict. The attitudes revealed by the characters indicate humanity values which help resolving the conflicts, and which also reflect good values in the drama.

BUILDING ALTRUISM THROUGH NOVELS

Abstract

Many human values can be found in the literary works, including novels. These values represent human behaviors, one of which is altruism. Altruism is a type of social behavior which is described as behavior motivated by concern for others or by internalized values, goals, and self-rewards rather than by the expectation of concrete or social reward, or the desire to avoid punishment or sanctions (Swank, Jacqueline M., et.al., 2016 cited in Christensen, 2018). Altruism is not easy to find in real life, but not in the literary works. This study aims to find out how altruism is represented in the novels through the behavior of the characters by using text analysis with narrative inquiry. The novels analyzed in this study are contemporary novels which are taken randomly. The result shows that altruism in the novels appears both in negative or positive impacts for the doers or the characters. Altruism found in the novels is expected to be able to build altruism attitude toward the readers, in this case, students of literature class.

ETHICS IN CLASSICAL AND CONTEMPORARY CHILDREN SHORT STORIES

Abstract

Children short stories are one way among other literature studies to educate children about moral values and social life around them. In order to be able to socialize with other people, one of the important moral values that an individual must have is ethics. Most of children short stories, both classical and contemporary, are trying to present ethics as the main theme. This paper explores the way ethics is being conveyed in classical and contemporary children short stories. In order to understand the story, a qualitative method use, which is Narrative Inquiry. The intentions of the inquiry were to entirely understand the background of the stories and authors with diverse culture as it is shown through the stories. There are 6 children short stories being analyzed. Three stories are classical, and the other three are contemporary. This paper also shows the results of comparison of ethic in classical and contemporary children short stories.
